Under the general supervision of the Manager - Employer Compliance, this position is responsible for performing employer compliance reviews through remote work or rare on-site visits to the employers’ Payroll office and reviewing working papers of Employer Compliance Associates, according to established compliance programs, with the purpose of determining that all eligible employees and only eligible employees are enrolled, and that for eligible employees, pensionable compensation is reported correctly in accordance with the Illinois Pension Code.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Complete the employer compliance work program of IMRF Employers, including payroll, enrollment records, and selected financial reports.
  • Prepare supporting work papers for the work completed and provide a report to the IMRF employer, notating any exceptions uncovered, within 5 business days of scheduled review.
  • Review working papers of Employer Compliance Associates.
  • Perform training for Employer Compliance Associates.
  • Create and continuously evaluate employer compliance procedures and recommend ways to improve the compliance process.

·         Consult staff to help them understand and complete their compliance activities.

  • Complete follow-up on compliance recommendations to validate the implementation of corrective plans.
  • Participate in IMRF presentations or functions related to Employer compliance reviews as needed.
  • Stay current on professional and industry developments and best practices through continuing education training. Certified staff should follow CPE requirements of their respective certifications (e.g., 40 hours).
  • Other duties as assigned within the department.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities. However, this position is required to provide day-to-day guidance and leadership to the Employer Compliance staff. This position may do workload reassignments, as needed. This position will be asked to provide input to management regarding training needs, policy and procedure revisions.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting is preferred.

  • Four years of recent compliance review experience. In lieu of compliance review experience, four years IMRF experience (in Internal Audit, Finance, Benefits, and/or Member/Field Services) may be substituted.
  • Must have proven expertise in Excel and Word.
  • Must possess strong communication skills, including the ability to prepare concise and well-written reports and correspondence. Must be able to work independently.

  • This position will be housed in our Oak Brook office.

Salary and Benefits

The expected annual salary range for this role is $69,560-$73,733. Please note the salary information is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. The range listed is just one component of IMRF's total compensation package for employees.
