Job Summary: Under general supervisor of the Chief Nursing Officer, Associate Chief Nursing Officer, Nurse Manager, RN-1 and Charge Nurse. The registered nurse (RN) uses the nursing process to safely coordinate total patient care and education for an assigned number of perinatal and/or neonatal patients. At all times, patient assignments will be determined by the charge nurse and/or nurse manager based on patient census, acuity and current staffing levels for overall patient care and are reviewed shift-to-shift.  As determined by the Nurse Manager, the RN will be assigned up to 40 hours per week and takes mandatory call, as needed. Will rotate between day and night shift according to the needs of the unit and staff. RN is expected to function within the scope of approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department, organization and Mississippi State Board of Nursing (MSBON). Will be responsible to assist with orientation, preceptorship, and management of personnel assigned to unit.  Must be able to work and relate in a professional, non-defensive manner with peers, physicians, mid-level providers, administration, patients, and visitors. The RN will collaborate with other professional disciplines to ensure effective patient care delivery and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Will be responsible for collecting selected patient information and performing patient care as directed by the Nurse Manager, RN-1 or Charge Nurse. Will be responsible to document total care given, review and maintain patient medical record per policy, and assist with accurate and timely entry of patient data, orders, and charges into computer system. Possess adequate knowledge of specific job-related skills including: Maintaining accurate patient information/date entry, demonstrating accuracy and skill in use of hospital computer systems, submits departmental reports as needed, orders and picks up supplies as needed/directed, has knowledge of word processing. Demonstrates the ability to recognize changes in the patient’s condition. Labor and Delivery nurses, also called Perinatal nurses, provide care and support for women before, during and after delivery of the baby. They are responsible for making sure that the medical as well as emotional needs of the patient are adequately met throughout the entire birthing process. The NICU/Nursery nurse cares for newborn babies who are delivered at term or pre-term who experience complications at birth. The nursery nurse attends deliveries and provides care for the newborn, as well as emotional support and encouragement for the mother. These nurses can perform a dual role of caring for the newborn and the mother postpartum. In this LDRP unit, all nursing staff are trained and responsible for routine mother-baby couplet care.  The successful candidate will have to pass a pharmacology test for this position. Attendance to yearly mandatory education requirements is nonnegotiable and will be the responsibility of the employee to arrange and attend sessions.
