The Opportunity:
We are seeking an early career architect or engineer to join our team in a field-based role that offers valuable hands-on learning opportunities on active construction sites. This position is ideal for candidates who thrive outside the office, are naturally curious about how buildings come together, and are eager to explore the technical side of the construction industry. You’ll gain firsthand experience observing construction activities, testing materials and systems, and verifying that work meets design specifications. This role provides a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between design and execution while building technical confidence in construction methods, materials, and real-world problem solving.
Responsibilities:
- Perform hands-on investigations, condition assessments, and construction observations of buildings.
- Perform building enclosure testing following industry standards.
- Conduct testing using various tools including nondestructive testing methods.
- Analyze field and laboratory data and research to facilitate problem-solving and repair design.
- Assist with preparation of client deliverables, including construction documents, specifications, and written reports.
- Interface with internal and external project teams, clients, and contractors.
- Work with team members to grow your knowledge in building systems and components.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Building Science, or related field.
- Two (2) plus years of similar experience (including internships and co-op positions).
- Excellent technical, written, graphical and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent communication, report writing and customer relations skills.
- Ability to adapt to new challenges and learn new concepts.
- Desire for continuous learning.
- Work well with others, courteous, patient, and respectful.
- Personal awareness of role as an SME ambassador.
- Fortitude required to stick with a problem until solved.
- Open-mindedness to opinions of others.
- Ability to work overtime, including weekends on an as-needed basis.
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds, stand for long periods of time, work from heights, work in tight spaces and inclement weather.
- Ability to work in an efficient and organized manner independently and with a team.
- Ability to drive and safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Willingness to travel to cover out-of-town overnight projects. A valid driver’s license (good driving record) is required.
