Job Summary:
Functions as a clinical resource to ensure that medical services—including OB/GYN care—are delivered in a safe and efficient manner, addressing patient needs as expeditiously as possible. The RN utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, implement, and evaluate care of patients with the assistance of the LPN. The RN is an integral part of the health care team that collaborates with other health team members and the center manager to facilitate patient care. The Ambulatory Care Nurse OB/GYN (RN) also ensures ancillary services are provided as needed, including support for OB/GYN procedures and screenings.
Essential Functions:
- Serves as a clinical team leader and resource, providing input on day-to-day clinical activities, including OB/GYN services, in collaboration with the center manager.
- Provides recommendations to the center manager for administrative and corrective actions of Clinical Medical Assistants.
- Provides clinical training to medical assistants, including OB/GYN-specific competencies, and supervises competency evaluations.
- Provides direct nursing care to patients, including assessments, nursing procedures (e.g., injections, pelvic exam assistance), and support during OB/GYN procedures.
- Provides in-person and telephone triage for patients seeking medical advice, including OB/GYN-related concerns.
- Provides health teaching and counseling to patients and families, including communication of test results, medication changes, and OB/GYN education.
- Assesses patient requests for same-day services and works with Providers and Center Manager to ensure that patient needs—including OB/GYN visits—are addressed appropriately.
- Expedites patient flow through implementation of standing orders or policies for medication refills, referrals, immunizations, and OB/GYN screenings. Ensures clinical medical assistants follow standing order protocols appropriately.
- Participates in the immunization process, including inventory and record keeping. Ensures vaccines are stored properly and educates staff on proper technique and current recommendations.
- Oversees laboratory services, including review of quality control, inventory, and specimen collection, including OB/GYN-related labs (e.g., Pap smears, STI testing).
- Participates in the maintenance of medication and medical supply inventory, including OB/GYN-specific supplies and monthly expiration checks.
- Assists with ongoing clinical education, including OB/GYN competencies, consistent with GBMS needs, goals, and objectives.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the EMR and serves as a clinical resource, including documentation of OB/GYN visits and procedures.
Nonessential Functions:
- Participates in team/staff meetings; attends in service meetings and applicable workshops.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Current Registered Nursing License in the State of Maryland or compact state required.
- Associate Degree in Nursing or a practical nursing diploma with relevant experience required. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or an equivalent field of study preferred.
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR) required.
- Bilingual is a plus!
