Job Description

Mitchell aerospace engineering company is looking to add a full-time Engineer in our Mesa, AZ facility. This position requires an individual who possesses mechanical aptitude and is experienced working within a team engineering environment. They can demonstrate cross functional communication skills, working with HR, engineering, sales and supply chain. You must demonstrate the ability to shift priorities when needed to support company goals and be willing to contribute to finding solutions to problems when needed. 

The Engineer will prepare design and certification data for various aircraft parts using reverse engineering practices.  The individual ensures design features are consistent with functional performance and safety requirements for the aircraft system installation.  Additionally, they will work with the new part development team and procurement to advise and evaluate new project feasibility. 

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

  • Parts inspection
  • Provide technical support and guidance for other members on the team
  • Investigate mechanical aircraft systems, mechanisms, and components in terms of function, failure modes, and operating conditions
  • Draft sketches and models of parts
  • Prepare detailed dimensional analysis reports and develop design tolerances based on manufacturing capabilities and part function
  • Determine appropriate material and performance specifications based on material analysis and testing
  • Prepare production drawings using ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards
  • Provide engineering support for procurement, manufacturing, receiving, and certification of parts
  • Create technical documents using FAA guidelines and regulations
  • Other duties as assigned
 

Experience and Skills

  • Possesses Mechanical Aptitude
  • Proficient with SolidWorks and MS Office applications 
  • Understands ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards
  • Familiarity with industry specifications, processes, and materials
  • Effective communicator both verbally and with technical writing
  • Detail oriented and highly organized 
  • Shop time, mechanic, or other hands-on experience is preferred
  • Experience with aircraft components and systems is strongly preferred
  • Experience in reverse engineering is preferred
  • Understanding and familiarity with FAA standards is preferred 
  • Training will be provided for the right candidate

  

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (mechanical or metallurgical engineering)

Physical Requirements

  • Work is in a standard office environment; Noise level is moderate in the work area.
  • Ability to communicate well orally with customers, management and co-workers is crucial.  Regular use of phone and email communication is essential.  Hearing and vision correctable within normal ranges for conversations, receiving information and preparing and inspecting documents.
  • Must be able to sit for extended periods up to 50% of the time for computer use or maintain equipment in and around your desk. 
  • Occasional lifting of boxes, files, parts or procured items up to 25lbs.
  • Ability to move about the office occasionally for files, office equipment and meetings.
  • Must have good vision and hearing with manual dexterity for computer work.
