The Position
The City of Maple Grove is seeking a dedicated Mechanic Supervisor to join our team! In this role, you will help serve our community by supervising and performing maintenance, repairs, and replacements on all city equipment. As the mechanic supervisor, you will be a part of the central equipment division in our Public Works Department; you will get to work with a team of dedicated mechanics and work inside our outstanding mechanics bay. As well as assisting in the decisions on manpower, equipment and labor to complete normal maintenance activities. Position Duties
- Serves as the fleet supervisor and head mechanic.
- Evaluates performance of employees under direct supervision, recommends training and development activities for staff, and implements hiring and discipline procedures if necessary.
- Orders and maintains inventory in accordance with equipment repair needs, maintains inventory and work order records, maintains fuel levels, and is responsible for completion of annual inventory in central equipment.
- Schedules, prioritizes, and monitors vehicle preventative maintenance and repairs, intakes new vehicles, and utilizes software to help the internal operations manager track vehicle maintenance.
- Works directly with administrative staff on tracking work orders, licensing vehicles, coding purchase orders, and other work in accordance with city policies.
- Utilizes special diagnostic equipment.
- Works with other employees related to special diagnostic equipment procedures, updates that are needed and follows up on related training.
- Performs and monitors the full range of repairs on vehicles and equipment, outfitting new vehicles, and stripping old vehicles.

- Demonstrates ability to understand and respect the diversity of customers and co-workers, effectively communicating with individuals whose first language may be one other than English.
- Performs other related duties as apparent or assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Practices and techniques of fabrication and welding.
- Mechanical and operational functions of all City vehicles and equipment.
- Materials, methods, products and techniques used to successfully maintain and service all City vehicles and equipment.
- Parts and inventory.
- Supervisory procedures and processes
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain positive and effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of work.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam.
Minimum Qualifications
An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered.
Need to have:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minnesota Commercial Driver’s License is required.
- Minnesota Commercial Vehicle Inspection certification is required and must remain current with two year recertification training.
- Five years of experience performing mechanical maintenance and repair on all types of vehicles (light equipment, automobiles, light trucks, heavy trucks, and off-road heavy equipment).
Nice to have:
- Previous experience supervising staff is desired.
- Experience working with Cartegraph or other vehicle maintenance tracking software.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environmental Conditions:
Mostly City garage environment; hazards associated with operating motorized equipment or vehicles, noise, and may have exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals.
Physical Conditions:
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may require maintaining physical condition necessary for sitting, standing or walking for prolonged periods of time; kneeling, climbing, bending and stooping; moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; must be able to operate assigned vehicles.
