About the Department
Position Duties
- Reviews and oversees intake and proper records management of all documents involved in the magistration process
- Determines appropriate documents to present to the Magistrate in order to facilitate the arrested persons being magistrate
- Administers oaths for parties involved in individual cases
- Submits all required documentation to the Department of Public Safety regarding Motor Vehicle Interlocks
- Notifies proper law enforcement agencies of protective orders
- Performs data entry to initiate and update case information
- Answers questions in person and by telephone, regarding the department, from the general public, magistrates, attorneys, and other County Departments
- Prepares and routes appropriate legal paperwork to the Sheriff's Office and Pretrial Services for release or retention of arrested persons
- Creates and recalls Judge's warrants
- Acts as backup to the Central Magistrate Operations Clerk
- Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
- High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, and three (3) years judicial system experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Good knowledge of basic office procedures; knowledge of alphabetical and numeric file systems; good knowledge of basic legal terminology; good knowledge of judicial procedures; and knowledge of records management
- Skill in operating a personal computer, scanning equipment, and basic office equipment
- Ability to accurately enter data; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; ability to deal with hostile or irrational individuals; ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; ability to effectively respond to customer inquiries and complaints; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, City and County staff, Elected/Appointed Officials, attorneys and the general public
- Acts in the name of the District Clerk and shall perform all official acts as may be lawfully done and performed by such Clerk in person, pursuant to Section 51.303 of the Texas Government Code
- Must be bondable
- Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation by the District Clerk
- Must clear a pre-employment physical and pre-employment drug screen
- May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
- Will be required to work shift work, flex hours, weekends, and holiday
- Generally working in indoor conditions
- Frequently moves items weighing up to 5-10 pounds
- Occasionally moves items weighing up to 40 pounds
- Occasionally moves about the office
- Frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Generally operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
- Positions self to perform essential functions
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position
