POSITION SUMMARY |
- The unit secretary performs the receptionist and secretarial duties. If functioning as monitor tech, is able to interpret rhythm strips and operate necessary equipment.

- Minimum Education
- Monitor tech class for monitor techs only; maintain yearly telemetry competency for monitor techs only.

- Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Cerner, transcribing physician orders, telephone etiquette, interpreting monitor strips.
- Preferred Qualification
- High School Diploma or GED. Graduate of a Medical Assistant program, Certified Nurse Assistant, or equivalent prior experience.

- Must work varied hours and schedules. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires ability to sustain concentration in a noisy and fast paced environment. May be exposed to violent or disturbed individuals.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS |

- General knowledge of basic bedside nursing.
- Provides care, based on the physical, psychosocial, education, safety and related criteria appropriate to age of the patients served in assigned area/department.
- Answers phone politely and responds with appropriate information or forwards call as required.
- Transcribes physician orders.
- Interprets monitor strips.
- Maintains continuing education if required for preferred certifications.

- Assists shift manager in maintaining an efficient running unit by providing clerical assistance
- Refers to policies and procedures when appropriate.
- Reports any changes on telemetry monitors and calls from call light to appropriate staff
- Inventories, orders and restocks unit to maintain adequate paper supplies
- Communicates effectively to individuals of all ages
- Transcribes licensed independent practitioner orders accurately and demonstrations how to use Cerner
- Schedules and completes tasks with minimal supervision and in a timely manner.
- Is adaptable and responsive to change (including floor assignments).
- Knows and follows chain of command and maintains confidentiality of information.
