The Prince George’s County Office of the Sheriff is currently seeking qualified applicants to fill an Administrative Aide 1Z grade Z13 position, in the Civil Service South Division.
About the Position
This is dually allocated entry level secretarial/administrative type work designed to relieve and provide administrative support to the Civil Division, thereby relieving them of administrative detail. Incumbent in this position maintains the lead administrative role in the unit. The incumbent has access to the highest degree of confidentiality and independently works under general supervision of supervisor.
About the Agency
The Prince George's County Office of the Sheriff has been a vital link in the criminal justice system for more than 300 years, providing the citizens of Prince George’s County with professional, transparent, and effective law enforcement service. The Office of the Sheriff serves as the law enforcement arm of the courts, responding to domestic violence calls, processing warrants, civil papers, domestic violence peace and protective orders, Emergency Psychiatric Petition (E.P.S.) orders, and the execution of evictions. The Office of the Sheriff is also responsible for court security, providing security and protection for visitors to our courthouses and securing courtrooms and holding areas. Deputies transport prisoners and are responsible for extraditing fugitives from other states.Position Duties
RECEIVES AND PROCESSES DISTRICT COURT CIVIL PROCESS AS OUTLINED IN THE STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURES
Daily verifies accuracy and legal content of District Court civil process received.
- On the day of receipt, accurately enters applicable process into the computer system.
MAINTAINS ACCURATE REPORTS, LOGS, FILES AND RECORDS AS REQUIRED
- Daily completes all logs, files, inventories, transmittal forms and other process as required by the Standard Operating Procedures.
- Responsible for accurate completion and submission of all required reports in a timely manner.
- Maintains systematic filing system.
MAINTAINS AND PROCESSES ALL EXPUNGEMENTS FOR THE CIVIL SECTION
Responsible for accurate completion and processing of all civil expungements.
ANSWERS TELEPHONES AND PUBLIC INQUIRIES
- Responds to internal and external inquiries in a courteous and professional manner, providing accurate information as needed or refers to appropriate person.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT/OFFICE DUTIES
- Advises supervisor and members of chain of command, of information affecting the day-to-day operations of the Civil Section, at all times, and adheres to all departmental rules and regulations.
- Responds to internal and external inquiries made from citizens, attorneys, and other agencies in a courteous and professional manner, providing accurate information as needed or refers to appropriate person.
- Assists co-workers in daily functions/operations of the section when workloads and personnel limitations demand so; serving as back up to support staff as assigned.
- Research to obtain information, analyzes in formation and assembles data for Supervisor, and/or members of chain of command.
PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate with coursework in typing, office practices or other related clerical subjects
- One (1) year of advanced diverse and/or technical clerical experience which must have involved working with the public for at least six (6) months
- Applicants must be proficient in typing in shorthand where required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous public safety or local government experience

Conditions of Employment: Upon selection, the candidate must:
Applicants who meet minimum qualifications must pass an administered Administrative Aide exam. Applicants who have previously taken the exam on or after 8/1/2024, and passed, will not be required to re-test; instead, previously test scores will be used to receive the passing disposition.
Meet all training and performance standards and demonstrate proficiency as required by the agency.
Wear and use agency protective apparel and equipment in the performance of their assigned duties, if applicable.
May be required to successfully pass preemployment checks which may include reference checks, background investigations, motor vehicle background check and drug screenings, where applicable.
Be willing and able to serve as an essential employee. Essential employees are expected to report during standard or non-standard hours as operations necessitate, or during emergencies. Essential employees are expected to report or remain at work when other County employees are granted Administrative Leave.
