About the Department
Under the general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, performs technical work of average difficulty in inspecting, installing, repairing and maintaining electrical systems and equipment. Incumbent also provides some electrical design work for other City departments as called upon. Duties require skilled technical examinations and the application of standard trade practices to inspection work. Work is accomplished with little direct supervision. Work is reviewed through written and oral reports and occasional re?inspections. Performs other work as required.
Position Duties
- Installs, maintains, and repairs wiring, lighting, and electrical systems on City owned facilities and street lights; ensures that electrical systems and control panels are safe and operable also within code standards.
- Responds to trouble calls as needed to make electrical repairs; determines cause of electrical problems; identifies needed materials and equipment to perform tasks. These repair requests include 480-volt street light circuit as well as 277 volt 3 phase circuits in various locations throughout the city.
- Makes and uses a variety of electronic testing equipment to ensure accuracy of diagnosis and repair; maintains simple activity records and completes job orders; maintains equipment and tools in working order.
- Makes and reads schematic diagrams as needed to ensure proper installations; adjusts flow meters; pulls meters.
- Reads, interprets, and applies N.E. codes, UL, Fire and life safety codes, consults code officials when necessary.
- Purchase and pick-up parts and materials.
- Lift and install heavy motors, transformers and/or generators.
- Work on emergency power systems and equipment
- Install data cables throughout City buildings.
- Work on starters and motors for air compressors.
- Assist other facilities employees on tasks other than electrical as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School graduate, GED. (Proof of education must be uploaded with application).
- Considerable progressively responsible experience in electrical construction and maintenance work, some years of which should have been at a journeyman level and included both maintenance and construction.
- Brevard County Journeyman certification. (Upload a copy of your Brevard County Journeyman certification with application)
- Class B CDL with Air Brake Endorsement or the ability to obtain a CDL permit within 90 days and obtain the CDL license within six months of employment. Applicants who possess an out of state Class "B" commercial driver's license with air brakes must obtain the Florida license within 10 days of employment.
- Brevard County Master Electrical License
- Valid State of Florida Electrical Contractor's license

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of principles and practices of the electrical trade.
Knowledge of methods, tools, and materials in the repair and maintenance of electrical systems and motors.
Knowledge of local and national electrical codes.
Knowledge of safety precautions common to electrical work.
Ability to diagnose electrical problems and determine the time and materials required to cause the repair.
Ability to read electrical diagrams and to follow written and oral directions.
Ability to direct the work activities of an assistant on site.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co workers and the public.
Skill in the use of electronic testing equipment and tools.
Ability to operate various City equipment such as a trenching machine, aerial truck and boom, grinder, and table saw.
Ability to follow DOT TRAFFIC AND SAFETY ZONE SET UP STANDARDS and lead fellow crew members in safe work practices while conducting street light repairs on heavily traveled roads and streets.
Ability to work from a ladder or bucket truck.
Ability to work regularly scheduled hours.
Ability to work overtime as directed

Ability to push or pull items for distances not to exceed 20 feet; distance may be level, inclining or declining.
Ability to bend, kneel or squat and stay in such a position for up to ten minutes.
