About the Department
The IT Department is hiring a Central Services Supervisor to direct the work of the Central Services mail, delivery, and distribution unit which is responsible for the collection, sorting, and delivery of all internal mail for Hennepin County, as well as the folding, inserting, sorting, and application of postage for mailings. The ideal candidate will have experience with the mailing/distribution and postal industry, including equipment used for inserting, sorting, bar coding, and shipping packages and letters, as well as knowledge of current postal regulations.
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center, 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487 and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and will require being on-site 4 days a week. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position, you will:
- Supervise and direct:
- Individuals responsible for the folding, inserting, sorting, and application of postage on large and small mailings.
- The group responsible for receiving, tracking, and delivery of all incoming Hennepin County packages.
- A team of drivers responsible for the collection and delivery of mail from Hennepin County locations.
- Participate in the review, recommendation, and approval process of multiple service contracts and administer these contracts.
- Evaluate and forecast the annual budget, assist in calculating chargeback fees for services, meet with vendors, and project market prices to establish internal costs and price levels for materials and services provided.
- Resolve customer problems including due dates, services, cost overruns, or faulty products.
- Set performance expectations and standards, hire, evaluate performance, administer discipline, assign and check work, train, develop and coach employees.
- Purchase supplies and monitor inventory levels.
- Create and implement process improvement initiatives.
Need to have:
- One of the following:
- Four years or more of experience in the mailing/distribution industry, including at least two years of supervisory/lead worker experience.
- Note: Up to two years of education may be substituted for mailing/distribution experience.
Nice to have:
- Experience:
- Working with United States Postal Service (USPS) bulk mail processes.
- Using Pitney Bowes mail metering systems.
- Using blue crest zip sorters.
- Operating inserting/folding equipment.
- Coordinating courier services.
- Effective written and verbal communication abilities in a business setting.
- Knowledge of the mailing/distribution and postal industry.
- Ability to:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
- Perform general administrative work including developing and maintaining records, and preparing budgets and reports.
- Organize, train, coordinate, and build effective teams.
- Create and implement process improvements.
