About the Department
Position Duties
- Review construction work to ensure conformance to plans and specifications.
- Compute construction quantities and assist in preparing reports for interim and final payments.
- Review construction work of contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with contract documents, reporting any discrepancy to the Resident Engineer.
- Perform inspections of construction materials at source and on project sites for conformity to specifications.
- Assist the Resident Engineer and Construction Inspectors in investigating and reporting construction and safety related problems encountered in the field.
- Participate in regular safety inspection “walk downs”.
- Maintain a daily project diary, files, test reports, etc. as directed by the Resident Engineer or Project Manager.
- Perform load counts of material delivered to construction sites.
- Obtain samples of materials to be sent to the laboratory for testing purposes.
- Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies and/or events as needed.
- Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.
- Work any and all shifts as assigned or directed.
- Respond or report to work as directed by supervisory personnel for emergencies, extreme weather conditions, or any other abnormal conditions that impair service or the safety of service, twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) day per week.
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- An Associate Degree from an accredited institution.
- Zero (0) to One (1) year of field experience working in commercial and/or large-scale construction projects.
- Effective quantitative, organizational and analytical skills.
- A valid driver’s license.
- The ability to effectively communicate with outside contractors, regulatory agencies, community organizations and others on technical and sensitive matters.
- The ability to successfully complete all Authority required training.
- Have excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills.
- The ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience.
- The ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations as assigned or directed.
- Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week.
- The ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce.
