Location: Bethlehem, PA
Salary From: $58,000.00 Annual


The Children’s Home of Reading (CHOR) Youth & Family Services is seeking a full-time FAMILY THERAPIST to provide quality family services as part of the community-based service team.

Responsibilities:

  • Effective use of verbal and non-verbal communication skills with adolescents/families.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective and relationships with adolescents/families.
  • Therapeutic crisis prevention and intervention; First Aid and CPR; infectious disease control policies and procedures; emergency fire procedures/evacuation; Emergency medical procedures; Child Protective Services Law; Child abuse recognition and staff responsibility; Vehicle safety.
  • Maintains confidentiality of each client and their family and provides services to clients and families as assigned.
  • Provides individual, goal-oriented service for clients as determined by the team.
  • Attends all internal and external meetings as assigned.
  • Provides structured groups for adolescents/families in coordination with the interventionists.
  • Completes all required documentation including service plans/reviews and discharge summaries.
  • As part of a team, engages in preventative crisis intervention techniques and intervenes in crisis situations, using only the methods/techniques that are approved and taught by The Children’s Home of Reading.
  • Does not befriend a child to the disregard of the professional role and maintains appropriate working boundaries.
  • Supports goals and objectives for each client.
  • Uses time in a constructive and positive manner (i.e. review files, training materials, 1:1 time with children, etc.)
  • Performs on-call responsibilities as assigned.       

 Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (required) in social work, psychology, counseling or other related field.
  • One (1) to three (3) years’ experience working with youth in a Human Service field.
  • At least three (3) written references that demonstrate past educational and/or employment experience.
  • Successful completion of core development orientation program.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Valid PA driver’s license (of ability to obtain such license), and good driving record, with proof of auto insurance coverage.
  • PA Act 33/34 and 151 clearances.
  • Pre-employment physical from a licensed physician (after conditional job offer) verifying person has no communicable diseases or physical conditions that might endanger the health and safety of children or prevent the person from performing essential job functions.

All applicants must undergo pre-employment drug screening, which includes testing for marijuanaas well as background checks (including FBI, State and ChildLine clearances).
