POSITION TITLE:  Accountant

                 

PROGRAM/LOCATION: Administration – San Luis Obispo            

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Accountant provides technical and administrative support to Finance staff through a variety of time-sensitive tasks. This position serves as a primary role for the agency’s accounts payable, account receivable and routine general accounting functions and works closely with the Controller to uphold financial integrity by following proper accounting policies and procedures and maintaining all finance records. The Accountant upholds and promotes the organization’s trauma informed philosophy in all duties performed.  


HOURS/ SALARY:

Part-time, non-exempt position. 24 hours per week. Anticipated hiring range is $27.00-$28.00. Includes a generous individual benefits package that includes critical illness benefits, accident benefits, 403b retirement (with up to a 5% employer match) paid sick time and a variety of helpful employee perks as well. (*Full Salary Schedule $27.00-$34.00 per hour).

ORGANIZATION DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Oversee internal controls over credit card charges and A/P bills in Ramp.  Ensure timely approvals and clearing of flagged transactions.  Investigate and resolve coding issues.  Issue and cancel employee credit cards in Ramp.

2. Perform Branch Street Studios project accounting.

3. Monitor performance against budgets for selected programs.

4. Prepare loan compliance documentation.

5. Assist with fixed assets accounting, including maintaining the agency’s asset management records, adding assets when purchased, calculating and posting depreciation/amortization, and removing assets when no longer in service.

6. Prepare balance sheet analysis to identify trends and potential issues

7. Evaluate occupancy and use fee charges for consistency and reasonableness.

8. Participate in year-end audit and help resolve audit questions.

9. Provide general and administrative support to finance staff.

10. Scan, copy, and file financial documents as needed.

11. Complete monthly journal entries in the accounting software system.

12. Promote, encourage and maintain trauma-informed practices in all services and activities.  Practice and promote, both individually and in team meetings, TMHA’s Collaborative Communication Guidelines in order to facilitate clear, empathetic and person-centered communication.

13. Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Finance Director or Controller.  


Job Environment:

1. Light, physical activity.  May include moving or lifting up to 50 lbs.

2. Involves moderate risks that require safety precautions and the risk of exposure to potentially intense situations.

3. Traditional office environment.


Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in accounting, business administration, economics or a related field.  One to two years of accounting experience, including making adjusting journal entries and performing account reconciliations. Job-related experience may substitute for the required education, on a year-for-year basis.

2. Understanding of GAAP and internal controls.

3. Ability to work with computerized accounting and human resources systems.

4. Excellent Microsoft Excel skills required.  Experience with SageIntacct and Paylocity software systems a plus.  

5. Ability to learn and adapt to new software programs.

6. Consistently demonstrate punctuality and reliability, ensuring timely attendance when scheduled.

7. Strong interpersonal skills, collaborative work style and strong oral, written, and communication skills. 

8. Well defined organizational and time management skills. 

9. Ability to work independently and flexibly.

10. Ability to handle intense situations, display good judgment and decision-making skills, and remain calm and clearheaded under pressure. 

11. Able to work effectively with a variety of people and personality types regardless of age, ethnicity, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression or socio-economic level.

19. Must use reasonable precaution in the performance of one’s duties and adhere to all applicable safety rules and practices while acting in such a manner as to assure at all times, maximum safety to one’s self, fellow employees, clients, and other persons contacted through TMHA business.

20. Conditions of employment include: 

• Must be at least 18 years of age; possess a valid CA Driver’s License, at least 2 years driving experience, and DMV driving record that meets TMHA’s current vehicle insurance requirements.  May be required to utilize personal reliable vehicle and auto insurance.  

• Must comply with a TB assessment (possibly a TB test if needed to confirm a negative tuberculosis result) and receipt of a criminal record clearance through fingerprinting.  

• Must be able to successfully complete First Aid and CPR training.
