The HR Communications Intern position provides hands-on experience in the strategic creation and delivery of internal employee and workforce-recruitment communications, employee engagement messaging and projects within the Human Resources division. This writing-intensive intern position is designed to strengthen creative abilities in the areas of internal employee and leadership messaging, workforce-focused digital communications, recruitment marketing and employee education/awareness.

Major Accountabilities:

•    Assists with the creation and strategic delivery of employee-focused messaging (internal news stories, memos, announcements, leadership messaging), as well as social media and/or website content that advances Valero’s position as a premier employer and career builder in the energy industry.
•    Reviews and proofreads digital and print communications for alignment with Valero’s culture values, as well as proper grammar, spelling and Valero style.
•    Helps to coordinate graphics/visual projects by collaborating with in-house design teams, providing creative support, key messaging and visual guidance as needed.
•    Develops recruitment-focused and workforce-positive social media content to engage potential candidates and interns to explore opportunities within our company.
•    Helps to promote Valero’s extensive employee programs and benefits in the areas of health and wellness, events and talent development, or other topics as assigned.
•    Provides communications support and social media content for key events and programs driven by the HR organization, including the Valero Intern Program and related recruitment events, or other topics as assigned.
•    Helps to develop new or updated content for Valero’s careers site, internal company portal and other web-based platforms to generate strong engagement, educate employees and attract followers to Valero’s workforce benefits and excellence various communications channels with content that promotes our excellence in the energy industry, our resources and comprehensive benefits.
•    Assists with organizing reports, maintaining records, organizing and maintaining files, preparing packages for shipping, and supporting events as needed.
•    Supports HR-sponsored internal event logistics, on-site photo or video projects, related communications and planning, as needed.

 This position is hourly nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay.


•    Currently pursuing a degree in Communications/Journalism, Marketing, Human Resources or related discipline required. 
•    Overall GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or higher) preferred.
•    Graduation dates of August 2026 through May 2028 required.
•    Able to work 40 hours per week during the Summer required.
•    Able and willing to work on-site and in-person at the Valero Headquarters in San Antonio, required.
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
