About This Opportunity  

This newly created position will lead a specialist Workforce Management Governance team within the Workplace Relations function.  The successful candidate will focus on ensuring compliance with the University’s Enterprise Agreement, relevant workplace legislation and employment instruments. You will also ensure accurate and effective use of the University’s workforce management system, UKG Pro WFM.

This role plays a key part in lifting workforce management maturity, embedding a culture of compliance, and delivering independent oversight of hire-to-pay practices across the University. It spans the full employment cohort - casual, fixed-term and continuing, across academic and professional roles.

Working collaboratively with operational staff in schools, faculties, institutes and central portfolios, as well as HR Client Partnering, Payroll, Pay Assurance and People Analytics, Employee Services, and Workplace Relations, the Senior Manager will ensure that hiring, scheduling, time sheeting, and payment activities are compliant, auditable, and support the University's broader workforce strategy.

This is a full-time, continuing position at HEW Level 9. 

Key responsibilities will focus on both Workforce Management Assurance and Leadership

  • Lead the Workforce Management Governance team to deliver structured education, risk assessment, training, and quality assurance across all stages of the hire-to-pay lifecycle and appropriate usage of the University’s workforce management system, UKG Pro WFM.

  • Establish and lead a community of practice supported by compliance frameworks, processes and tools for workforce monitoring, auditing, and reporting, including spot checks and thematic reviews.

  • Provide expert guidance on the application of complex or ambiguous employment arrangements.

  • Facilitate audits with faculties and organisational units, supporting action plans, implementation, and progress tracking.

  • Develop and implement a standardised training and compliance check process across faculties and central portfolios.

  • Provide strategic system guidance, support implementation and run business readiness activities for the workforce management system, UKG Pro WFM, including change and training inputs.

  • Design and embed a cross-HR operating model that strengthens workforce compliance and assurance, provides strategic risk and benchmarking insights to senior leadership, leverages data and reporting for evidence-based decision making, and supports the University’s workforce strategy including pathways to secure employment. 

About You

We are looking for a values-driven leader with the ability to influence. Someone who can use their advanced analytical capability in compliance risk and problem-solving and commit to building capability, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement.  The successful candidate will have:

  • Qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Human Resources and/or extensive relevant industry experience.

  • Extensive experience in workforce compliance, assurance, or governance within complex environments.

  • Deep understanding of Australian employment law, industrial instruments and Fair Work compliance.

  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and lead assurance or audit programs and proven success delivering large-scale training or capability uplift initiatives across diverse stakeholders.

  • Proficiency in HRIS and digital assurance tools

The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check and education check.
