Join our Research and Development team in Royston as a Senior Scientist.

We are looking for a Senior Scientist for the Research and Development department at Sartorius, working within the Application and testing department. In this role, you will be responsible for applying biology knowledge in an engineering environment to support product development of novel systems used in biopharmaceutical development. This involves working in a multidisciplinary team to achieve the development projects aims and execution of experiments requiring hands – on daily testing in a laboratory environment.  

The immediate team consists of 11 professionals, but you will be working on projects involving other teams in Product Development, Manufacturing and Support services. We are looking forward to shaping the future with you.  

This position is available full time on a permanent basis and is based on site at our Royston, Hertfordshire location. The site is a short walk from Royston train station, on the Cambridge to London route and close to the A505.

Grow with us – Your Responsibilities  

  • On a daily basis you will oversee the design and execution of experiments, making strategic decisions based on project priorities and ensure completion whilst adhering to project timelines

  • Execution of biological/biochemical based assays

  • Ensuring project objectives, including user requirements and ergonomics are met

  • Analyzing results and preparing comprehensive reports, summarizing the progress of projects

  • Mentoring and guiding scientists and laboratory assistants in planning and executing experiments

  • Working closely with customers and stakeholders to ensure their needs are met and communicated effectively

  • Preparing and presenting reports, project updates, documentation to customers and stakeholders

  • Leading design reviews and contribute to the development of new systems

  • In line with Leadership Guidelines, apply strategic principles to align project goals with organizational objectives, optimize resource allocation, implement change management strategies to adapt to evolving project needs

  • Fostering motivation and development among team members and collaborate with cross – functional teams

  • Ensuring health and safety and ISO standards are followed accordingly to ensure compliance and a safe working environment

What will convince us 

  • PhD or master’s degree paired with industry experience (Biology, Biotechnology, Biomedical studies, Molecular/Cell Biology, Biochemistry or relevant field)

  • Knowledge of bioprocessing industry, mammalian cell culture, cell and gene therapy principles

  • Previous experience in bioprocessing in an industrial or research laboratory, operating bioreactors

  • Experience in designing, planning and executing experiments and delivering data and conclusions for group review

  • Product development experience is beneficial

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good attention to detail

  • Ability to plan own project work and meet deadlines

  • Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills

  • Experience with MS Office

  • Experience in MVDA and DOE principles is beneficial

  • Procurement systems like SAP and Wescale is beneficial
