**This position is only available to current students of Palmer College of Chiropractic
This work-study position is responsible for monitoring the Anatomy labs so that the students can review the models, prosections and cadavers.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Open the lab at the beginning of each lab study period (evenings, Saturday morning, and some Sunday afternoons)
- Be present in the room as the supervising representative of the faculty to make sure that all departmental, college, and federal policies are followed for sensitive materials and toxic chemicals.
- Check in students assuring that the occupancy of the room does not exceed fire code allowances.
- Check out specimens and make sure that they are returned in good condition and are put away correctly.
- Handle problems which arise (i.e. equipment malfunction, discipline problems) or contact an appropriate faculty member and/or security personnel.
- Any time the lab assistant handles a problem they must forward a complete report of the situation to the department chair and/or assistant chair.
- Close the lab at appropriate time making sure that all equipment and specimens are properly shut down and/or put away.
While working in the Histology lab, the lab monitor will have all of the previously listed responsibilities plus the following:
- Make sure that the students use only the equipment assigned to them.
- Operate the VCR when tapes are requested.
- Exchange slides as requested making sure that the appropriate paperwork is completed.
Qualifications
Mental and Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and bend to perform assigned duties
- Ability to utilize necessary lab. materials and chemicals
- Ability to keep all sensitive information and paperwork completely confidential
- Must have effective communication and direction taking skills
Education, Training and Experience:
- All potential lab assistants must fill out their departmental application form and be interviewed by the assistant chair of the department.
- They are required to have finished at least first and second quarter with at least a B in their Anatomy classes.
- Understanding of FERPA and HIPAA regulations and guidelines
Working Environment and Conditions:
- Performs assigned duties in a ventilated, lighted, and temperature controlled office environment
