POSITION SUMMARY
This is a unique opportunity for a Registered Dietitian to train as a Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), with the objective of achieving certification within two years. The role also involves providing sports nutrition consultations to local school athletic programs and students. The position offers both outpatient Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) services in Beaver Dam and Columbus, with flexible scheduling from 0.8 to 1.0 FTE.
The RD is responsible for providing Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) using the Nutrition Care Process, including nutritional screening and assessments of infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, pregnant/lactating, and geriatric patients with a variety of medical conditions as a member of the interdisciplinary care team. Provides MNT for patients receiving enteral tube feeding and parenteral nutrition. Implements nutrition care plans to meet patient’s nutritional needs. Counsels and educates patients, family members, employees, medical staff and community members on nutrition and wellness topics. Develops, conducts and evaluates educational classes and materials. Participates in developing and updating procedures, protocols and departmental policies. Facilitates compliance with The Joint Commission, state and other regulatory agencies related to nutrition care. Participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of quality initiatives. Provides cross-coverage consultative services to long-term care facility when needed.
A Diabetes Educator is responsible for providing Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and/or Diabetes Self-Management Education & Training (DSME/T) in the context of the recognized program, including nutrition and diabetes screening, assessments and reassessments of adult and geriatric patients with a variety of medical conditions as a member of the interdisciplinary care team. Initiates and completes MNT and/or DSME for Outpatient services, using facility approved Standing Orders. Counsels and educates patients, family members, employees, medical staff and community members on nutrition, diabetes and wellness topics. Develops, conducts and evaluates educational classes and materials. Participates in developing and updating procedures, protocols and departmental policies. Facilitates compliance with The Joint Commission, diabetes program recognizing body, state and other regulatory agencies related to nutrition and/or diabetes care. Participates in the development, implementation and monitoring of quality initiatives. Floats to provide coverage in all areas within professional scope of practice, including weekend and holiday call rotations (as appropriate).
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION
- Graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics or related field
- Completed an accredited intern program
- Valid certification in the State of Wisconsin as a Dietitian (CD) or temporary certification if RD eligible for the first 90 days of employment.
- If the candidate is a Registered Dietitian but does not hold a valid certification in the state of Wisconsin, they must have a pending application for certification with the state of Wisconsin at their employment start date.
- Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD), or RD Eligible with earned RD credential within 90 days of employment. Temporarily certified, certification pending and/or RD eligible staff will have all work supervised and/or co-signed by a RD-CD.
- The RD is responsible for completing, documenting and submitting all required continuing education credits for maintenance of credentialing.
