The Safety Manager is responsible for the maintaining a safe, healthy, and compliant work environment across all levels of Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA (GIMG-CSRA). This individual is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing comprehensive safety policies and programs designed to prevent workplace injuries, illnesses, accidents and to maintain compliance with all safety regulatory entities. The Safety Manager proactively identifies potential hazards, conducts regular audits, and provides training and guidance to leadership and staff. This position requires a blend of leadership, technical expertise, and a deep commitment to fostering a culture of safety.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate core values of GIMG-CSRA by modeling service, ownership, accountability, and respect.
- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies, procedures, and programs that comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify and mitigate hazards.
- Investigate all incidents, near misses, and occupational injuries or illnesses, preparing detailed reports and recommending corrective actions.
- Lead and participate in root cause analysis for workplace incidents and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
- Maintain up-to-date records of safety inspections, incident investigations, training sessions, and regulatory compliance documentation.
- Serve as the main point of contact with regulatory agencies (e.g., OSHA, local safety boards) and ensure timely submission of required reports and documents.
- Develop and deliver engaging safety training sessions, orientations, and refresher courses for all employees, contractors, and visitors as appropriate.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and adapt them based on feedback, incidents, or changes in regulations.
- Collaborate with management, supervisors, and employees to promote a culture of safety and shared responsibility throughout the organization.
- Stay informed about new laws, regulations, industry standards, and best practices regarding occupational health and safety.
- Coordinate safety committee meetings and participate in cross-departmental safety initiatives.
- Oversee the proper use, maintenance, and storage of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety-related supplies.
- Develop emergency response plans and conduct regular drills (fire, evacuation, chemical spill, etc.) to ensure preparedness.
- Support workers’ compensation claim management and assist with return-to-work programs.
- Analyze data and metrics related to safety performance, incident trends, and regulatory compliance to inform continuous improvement.
- Develops and implements systems, policies, education, and procedures for the identification, collection, analysis of safety and quality information.
- Ensure standardized work and processes are followed, needed adjustments are implemented and the area is compliant with safety and 5S requirements.
- Work to identify quality and safety compliance deficiencies, evaluation of risk and determination of solutions.
- Identify, develop and implement strategies aligned with the active Strategic Plan while optimizing the use of resources with appropriate allocation to meet the needs of the organization.
- Ensures GIMG adheres to internal and external quality standards and regulations related to policies and systems and other services.
- To maintain confidentiality of all records and files concerning the position.
- To perform all other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations (e.g. OSHA, CPSC, etc.)
- Analytical skills, accurate and detail oriented. Able to independently read, comprehend, analyze information and data.
- Collaborative with effective communication skills. Ability to convey messages in an organized and effective manner.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively build relationships and demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment.
- Experience conducting safety audits, inspections, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver effective safety training.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and complete multiple tasks.
- Internal code of ethics is governed by high level of integrity.
- Strong work ethic with sense of urgency and accountability.
- Ability to work independently with strong self-management and self-motivation, meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks at once.
- Travel: Approximately 40% to provide support to our retail, donation centers, education, and hospitality locations.
- Working Conditions: Works in office environment, travels to sites, may work in confined spaces.
- Physical and Other Requirements: Requires good physical agility and strength. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must be able to work under stressful conditions. Must be able to climb ladders and be able to work in confined spaces.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in related discipline and/or multiple professional certifications including OSHA 10 and 30, CPR/First Aid, CSP.
- At least seven years in safety or risk management field, with at least three of those years being in a supervisor or managerial role.
