Job Description
Mail Driver Lead
This position is responsible for campus and off campus deliveries, ensuring that all mail, print and laundry is delivered to their proper locations throughout the University and 10+ locations of delivery or pickup off campus in a timely manner and maintaining good and safe use of trucks.
What you’ll do in this position:
Supervision and Distribution of all Incoming mail. Delivery of Mail, Print & Laundry
This position will train and supervise 2 to 3 students daily
Organized and load daily delivery of Print and Laundry for off campus delivery. This includes 25 + locations from Springville Utah to Brigham City Utah
This position is responsible for the timely and accurate delivery of more than $100,500 of product weekly with approximately 5,000,000 monthly
Know the logistics of the operations at the post office dock
Ensure accurate and timely delivery of print orders and laundry to contracted locations
Has a professional relationship with businesses and understands each business's need
Gather appropriate signatures and Qtrak orders with correct information and pictures
Maintenance and Organization of Product and Vehicles
Assists Logistics Manager with Truck training and logistics with maintenance at the BYU Auto Shop
Has knowledge of large truck handling and usage. Uses good judgement when road conditions are not at best
Obeys all state laws for interstate traffic going to and from Salt Lake City
Informs supervisor of immediate issues with trucks by doing daily checks. Keep trucks in well maintained operation for a safe delivery daily. This would include fuel filled daily, washer fluid, DEF maintained filled, wiper blades, tire pressure, straps in good condition for strapping in loads we well as clean cab and box
Sort building mail from carriers, this includes, FedEx, UPS, USPS, Amazon, OHL and other smaller carriers
Understands and executes delivery and pick up of Mail, Print & laundry across campus. This includes knowing allocations of mail rooms and laundry drops
Understand the logistics of using Qtrak and uses it as directed to monitor all print, laundry and mail across campus
Gather all outgoing stamped departmental, campus, and university business mail, separating and distributing it to the appropriate processing areas with Mail Services
Truck Delivery of Mail and Pick-up
Successfully complete BYU truck and van driving courses
Keeps a current DOT certificate
Assist Fulltime manager with Campus mail rooms and dock organization
Assist when necessary, as a laundry worker in the University Laundry Operations
What qualifies you for this role:
Required:
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
Basic computer literacy (minimum required)
Valid driver’s license
Extensive knowledge of BYU campus and surrounding areas, including: All campus buildings and their locations, departments within each building, and mail and package delivery destinations for over 4,500 faculty and staff
Excellent memory skills with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to frequent changes in personnel and departmental moves
Familiarity with U.S. Postal Service Private Express Statutes to ensure legal compliance with the university’s mail distribution system
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make quick, appropriate decisions regarding mail and package deliveries
Ability to resolve issues involving vague or inaccurate addresses while still meeting time-sensitive delivery expectations
Excellent communication and public relations skills
Strong interpersonal skills with a high level of professionalism
Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Proficient computer skills to maintain accurate campus mail records
Initiative to maintain and improve mailroom operations across 28+ campus buildings
Ability to safely operate campus delivery vehicles, including vans, panel trucks, and one-ton delivery vehicles
Physical Exam and Lift Test Required

Moderate – Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions. (Elaborate below)

Physical Requirements
Perform tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs. frequently, pushing heavy carts of mail (over 600 lbs.), walking, standing, and repetitive arm and hand movements. Closed-toe shoes and gloves are recommended for safety
Regularly enter and exit campus buildings, with exposure to all weather conditions. Appropriate seasonal clothing, footwear, gloves, and sunscreen are recommended
Work in areas with high noise levels from mail-sorting equipment. Hearing protection is recommended
Handle and sort mail with potential exposure to unhealthy foreign substances (e.g., anthrax, influenza, cold viruses). Protective gloves and proper hygiene practices are strongly recommended

Typical Starting Pay: $16.50 to $21.00 an hour
