The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is seeking an experienced, imaginative, and strategic museum education professional to join our staff.
Our Programs and Outreach Manager position will be responsible for the overall strategic direction of educational programs and outreach within our Museum, with a focus on fostering engagement with all visitors.
The DAR Museum, located in the DAR's Headquarters, collects, preserves, and interprets objects used and created in American homes. Using the lens of the varied interpretations of home, we inspire conversations about the diverse American experience, encouraging people to discover common ground.

A successful candidate will be able to apply their knowledge to grow the public's awareness of the museum through the expansive use of social media, to develop the museum as a solid resource for schools at all levels and to use analytics to adjust our collection education as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Develops, implements, and evaluates long-range strategic plans for museum-wide programming for all ages.
- Will lead cross-functional teams within the museum and other DAR offices to conceive, plan, and implement multi-year educational public programs for intergenerational audiences, scholars, DAR partners, and DAR members.
- Establish and sustain relations with schools, universities, and other educational institutions, both locally and nationally.
- Designs appealing and high-quality academic and community programs that builds an audience and participation, enhances guest engagement and learning, and encourages repeat visitation.
- Will drive a data-driven approach to program evaluation so that staff can support a continuous improvement of programmatic offerings and deeper participation in the DAR Museum community.
- Develop and manage a process to execute social media plans and develops online content for programs and events. This will involve monitoring analytics and executive strategies to raise our audience on all platforms.
Reports to: Museum Director and Chief Curator
Work Schedule: This is a full-time position, with some limited telework options available.
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in museum education, Museum Studies, or Arts Education, or combination of education and equivalent experience in a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in museum education, programming, or visitor engagement at a similar cultural institution.
- Distinguished track record of creating innovative and successful programs for a diverse range of audiences.
- Strong project management and organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to establish and communicate priorities.
- Strategic thinking with an eye towards mission alignment, impact, and financial sustainability.
- Proven background connecting to and working with a variety of audiences which includes community schools and local partners.
- Effective management and mentorship of staff.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including interpersonal skills and public speaking and the ability to compellingly communicate the museum's mission, vision, and programs to a diversity of audiences.
- Willingness to learn, think creatively, and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical collaborators.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current scholarly trends in U.S. history, decorative arts, and material culture and their relevance to a diverse range of audiences, from experts to members of the public.
Perks and Pay:
- Hiring annual salary range is between $60,000 to $75,000, with the final determination based upon the candidate's overall experience.
