About this Opportunity

Amentum are currently recruiting Safety & Risk Consultant to join our Team. We are interested in candidates with a range of experience levels, from early careers to seasoned experts (entry, intermediate, associate, career, senior, specialist). The scope and responsibilities of the roles will be aligned based on the qualifications, experience and strengths of each candidate.

Our Safety and Risk Methodologies (S&RM) team provides independent safety assessment and advice on the use of Design Basis Analysis (DBA), Probabilistic Safety Assessments (PSA), Severe Accident Analysis (SAA) and Internal and External Hazards Analysis in safety cases.  The team has detailed knowledge and extensive experience of safety methods and techniques and their application within defence nuclear and civil nuclear safety cases. The team has primarily supported the Defence Nuclear Enterprise and some of the most complex, challenging and important projects within the UK nuclear industry.  The team is therefore well positioned to apply their experience to other domains, so is seeking candidates with safety case experience to complement the current team’s skillset and experience.

Independent Assurance - We provide risk based, proportionate, independent oversight and assurance of whether a project, process, system or product meets defined standards, requirements, or expectations.

Research & Technology - We identify, define and execute programmes of Research and Technology to support the continued safe operation of some of the world’s most complex engineering challenges, including the UK Naval Nuclear Propulsion Programme.​

Independent Regulatory Support - A ring-fenced and independent organisation that supports regulators with assessments, audits, and guidance development.

With aspiration to grow, transform and evolve into new industries, locations and technologies.

Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking INSA and ITA of customer safety case documents to provide balanced and proportionate advice, to time, cost and quality.

  • Engaging with customer safety case specialists to inform INSA/ITA.

  • Presenting the S&RM team’s view at internal and customer meetings.

  • Helping to produce and/or advising customers on the adequacy of their safety management arrangements.

  • Production and delivery of safety case training courses.

  • Interfacing specialists from other technical disciplines to understand the appropriateness of the safety case.

  • Working in accordance with business requirements for health, safety, environment, security and quality as well as seeking continuous improvements in all aspects of work.

Here’s What You’ll Need  

  • Degree (Level 6, minimum requirement) in science or engineering.

  • Membership (or working towards) a professional institution is desirable.

  • Clear and concise technical writing skills.

  • Effective communication skills, ability to discuss safety case topics with subject matter experts from a range of other technical disciplines and provide professional independent challenge or advice.

  • Knowledge and experience of the application of some of the following techniques:

    • HAZID techniques

    • DBA

    • PSA

    • SAA

    • Internal and External Hazards characterisation

    • Human Factors / Human Reliability

  • Knowledge of safety case structures and staged safety case campaigns (PSRs, PCSRs etc).
