Position Summary:
This position is responsible for assisting in aspects of developing and implementing successful
year around sport specific strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes in all sport
programs. This includes, but is not limited to: instruction of proper techniques, physical
performance evaluation and testing, scheduling assistance, maintenance, and upkeep of weight
room facility, adhering to all rules regulations of the University, NCAA and applicable conference.
Job Duties:
1. Develop and implement successful sport specific strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes in assigned sport programs. (20%)
2. Direct pre-season, in-season, post-season, and summer strength and conditioning workouts in assigned sports, assist in others. (10%)
3. Assist in daily weight room operations to include improving resources, operations, scheduling, and maintenance of strength and conditioning facilities and equipment (10%)
4. Instruct student-athletes in proper training techniques, speed development, plyometric and assist with injury rehabilitation and recovery methods. (10%)
5. Organize and analyze physical performance testing and evaluation. (10%)
6. Lead and motivate student-athletes to maximize their potential. (5%)
7. Enforce weight room policies, keep an up to date policy and procedure manual (5%)
8. Ensure emergency response and evacuation plans for the strength and conditioning areas are up to date, displayed and communicated (5%)
9. Assist in the development, coordination, and implementation of an academic strength and conditioning partnership program. (5%)
10. Assist in department education of supplement use and banned substances. (5%)
11. Demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and commitment to compliance with University of Northern Colorado, NCAA, and conference policies, rules and regulations. (5%)
12. Remain current on all trends, methods, and innovations related to strength and conditioning. (5%)
13. Work effectively with department support services personnel to enhance student-athlete welfare and development. (5%)
14. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Education:
• Bachelors degree in Exercise Science required and Masters degree in a related field preferred.
2. Experience:
• 1-3 years experience as a strength and conditioning coach (GA or full time) in
intercollegiate athletics or professional team setting. Experience in Division I is
preferred.
• Background in weight room organization, knowledge of nutrition and its effect on physical conditioning as well as familiarity with rehabilitation programs for athletes and the ability to work with medical and training staff preferred.
3. Certification/Registration/Licensing:
• Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS) or SCCC required and USA-W are optional
but preferred.
• CPR, AED and first aid training
4. Ability:
• Effective communication skiffs (spoken and written) with student-athletes, coaches,
administration, and support staff
• Remain current on aft trends, methods, and innovations related to strength and conditioning,
training, fitness, and coaching
• Knowledge and adherence to NCAA, Conference, State, Institutional, and Department rules and regulations, including competitive safeguards
• Organizational and Management Skills
• Supervision (e.g. Student-athletes, Assistants, Students)
