GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Library Information Services Specialist is responsible for designing and providing bibliographic information sessions to courses on the Ivy Tech Madison campus. With prior approval, the Information Services Specialist may also provide assistance with collection development and weeding, circulation, and other library support.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Applies professional expertise in the design, delivery, and assessment of library instructional services in all classroom delivery formats.
- Works with faculty to design instructional sessions that advance student information literacy across the curriculum
- Assists library users with library resources in all formats, including library databases, library website, MyIvy, Windows Office, and other basic computer applications.
- Offers exemplary customer assistance to students, faculty, and staff.
- Conducts all duties within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
MAY ALSO:
- Develop and update policies related to library instruction
- Assess and evaluate library instruction and its success in meeting the College/library goals.
- Perform routine technical service (print periodical and book processing).
- Assist with research regarding pricing, setting up new vendor accounts, and preparing documents such as requisitions for library resources as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited institution required.
- Knowledge of automated library systems and current informational technology and trends required.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community required.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of professional library practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of educational pedagogy and excellent teaching skills.
