The Event Coordinator for the Red Room at Café 939 is a job for students interested in learning the inner-workings of a commercial 200 capacity all-ages venue on the campus of Berklee College of Music. Event Coordinators will work alongside industry professionals developing skills in talent buying, researching music and trends, venue management and presenting artists for both ticketed and non-ticketed shows. The Red Room is an entrepreneurial environment that requires a student to have a working knowledge of the music industry and to be able to carry out duties in a timely and efficient manner. The job requires daytime office hours and night commitments.Duties:
Work within assigned “territory” to book bills and packages that make sense for The Red Room. The Event Coordinator develops relationships with agents, managers and artists (Berklee, local and national).
Identify and research music trends, playlists, music publications, websites and performers in order to make educated suggestions for programming at the venue. Consulting Pollstar Pro to gain a sense of a “fair market” pricing while learning the names, roles and rosters of leading industry professionals and their respective companies.
Negotiate deals with the counsel of the management that reflect the venue’s budgetary constraints as well as the “fair market price” of a performer or band.
Execute contracts and riders for performing artists. Learn the legalese attached to contracts and riders. Confidence and the ability to say “no” are very important components of this job.
Under the supervision of the Red Room Venue Manager and Event Manager, the Event Coordinator will send in offer sheets, determine ticket pricing and room set-up to maximize the success of the event.
Coordinate “night of show” information with the Venue Manager, artists/managers (contracts/riders/show folders/hospitality/merchandising)
The Event Coordinator should be available to attend the shows as a “promoter representative” and act as the point person for advancing the shows. This will require some night shifts and weekends.
The Red Room is a multipurpose venue. Most evening events are ticketed concerts and the room capacity is based on the set-up style of the room. There are daytime concerts, clinics, lectures and private events that may require an Event Coordinator.
