The Histology & Necropsy Technician is responsible for performing routine and specialized technical procedures related to the collection, processing, and analysis of biological tissue samples. This role supports both necropsy and histology functions, ensuring high-quality specimen preparation and data accuracy to aid in pathological evaluations and research efforts.
What you will be doing?
- Perform tissue trimming, embedding, microtomy (sectioning), and slide preparation
- Conduct staining procedures (e.g., H&E and special stains)
- Operate histological equipment including tissue processors, microtomes, and autostainers
- Maintain accurate records, labeling, and documentation throughout the histology workflow
- Monitor quality control standards and troubleshoot technical issues as needed
- Assist in performing gross necropsy examinations in accordance with study protocols and safety regulations
- Collect, label, and document tissue and fluid samples accurately
- Weigh organs, record data, and ensure precise identification of specimens
- Clean and maintain necropsy rooms, tools, and equipment
- Handle biological waste in compliance with safety and biohazard procedures
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
The Requirements of the Position
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) preferred
- Animal Care or Research laboratory work experience
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures and protocols
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Manage multiple tasks and priorities at any time.
