Rochambeau, The French International School of Washington, DC (Rochambeau), has an immediate opening for a Secondary School Teacher History & Geography  – Full Time

Location: Bethesda, MD
Reports to: Director for the Secondary School

Job Type: Full-time; Exempt; Faculty Collective Bargaining Unit (CBA) applicable
Salary Information: The salary range is $41,875.53-$110,424.24 per the Faculty CBA Salary ScaleTeachers will be hired and employed in the highest category of teaching staff to which they are entitled in accordance with the degrees and certifications that they hold and the subjects and levels that they teach. 

Benefits: In addition to base compensation, this position is eligible for: additional duties pay, paid time off, paid holidays, and health and retirement benefits enrollment, which includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and a 403(b) plan.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position involves teaching History (World and US), Geography, and Civics for the Secondary school (Grades 6-9) in the French program and the Middle Years Programme (MYP).  English is the language of instruction for this position.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Please note that these are intended as representative duties and do not encompass every aspect of the role. You may be required to perform additional or differing duties if they are related, similar, or logically assigned to the position.

  • Plan for and provide secondary-level classroom instruction in History, Geography and Civics. Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to assess students’ academic progress regularly.  

  • Develop curriculum, instructional materials, assessment tools, and lesson plans according to the needs and interests of students, fulfilling the criteria of the school curriculum.

  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students, creating a learning environment to achieve academic focus and success.  

  • Select books and instructional aids appropriate to the interests and maturity level of students.

  • Evaluate students’ academic performance, behavior, social development, and physical health and maintain accurate and complete student records. 

  • Meet with department colleagues to evaluate student placement test results, monitor and assess student performance throughout the year in order to determine each student's current placement level, and discuss other departmental concerns. 

  • Provide remedial programs for students who have not achieved language competency commensurate with their potential. 

  • Participate in appropriate in-service programs or other professional development, parent-teacher conferences, and faculty meetings as required or requested. Perform all administrative and teaching duties in a bilingual English & French-language environment.

  • Participate in curriculum, in-service, and professional developmental activities. 

  • Maintain records for individual students and prepare report cards each trimester.

  • Act as liaison between students, parents, and school staff regarding the Secondary school History and Geography program. 

  • Demonstrate commitment to Rochambeau’s vision, mission, values, and strategic plan.

  • Perform related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • The position requires a Bachelor’s (advanced degree preferred) degree in History, Geography or a related field from an accredited college/university; or have a degree applicable to the field of education with a minimum of 2 years experience of teaching (in the relevant group). 
    Equivalent education/experience can substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a visa/license/certification/registration.

  • Two or more years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education. 

  • Regular, predictable, and reliable attendance at work.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain a pleasant demeanor with students, co-workers, supervisors, and others.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Familiarity with connected classroom set-up and proficient computer and education technology skills.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • US or French teaching qualification.

  • Bilingual English/French language proficiency.
