Louisa County Public Schools is seeking a skilled and motivated Media Technology Assistant to join our TV Media Production Program. This role provides essential technical expertise and instructional support to ensure the smooth operation of our media lab and live broadcasts. While not a teaching position, the role works closely with the lead teacher and student interns to deliver high-quality productions and hands-on learning experiences. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a growing, high-profile program that gives students authentic experience in media production. You’ll play a hands-on role in guiding student interns, ensuring technical excellence, and supporting a program that connects classroom learning to real-world production.
Primary Responsibilities
- Technical Management: Set up, operate, and maintain media production equipment, with particular emphasis on the NewTek TriCaster system, cameras, editing software, and broadcasting tools. Troubleshoot technical issues to minimize downtime and ensure smooth productions.
- Live Production Support: Assist with school broadcasts, including athletic events, assemblies, and after-school activities. Support all aspects of live production such as camera operation, switching, audio management, and post-production editing.
- Classroom Assistance: Serve as a right-hand support to the lead teacher during daily instruction. Step in as a substitute instructor when the teacher is absent to maintain program continuity.
- Student Intern Guidance: Work directly with high school student interns, helping to train and mentor them in technical skills and production processes. Provide supervision in a supporting capacity, while the lead teacher maintains overall responsibility.
- Collaboration & Coordination: Participate in division-level planning meetings and collaborate with staff to design, schedule, and execute media projects that highlight school and community events.
Qualifications
- Proven experience with live production systems, particularly the NewTek TriCaster.
- Familiarity with video editing platforms (e.g., Adobe Premiere, Final Cut) and broadcasting tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in media technology environments.
- Effective communication and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate as part of a team.
- Willingness and flexibility to work evenings or weekends for after-school productions and events.
Preferred
- Prior experience in an educational or training environment.
- Knowledge of sports broadcasting practices and workflows.
- Familiarity with Google Workspace and digital content management platforms.
