Job Summary

The Position Under the direction and supervision of the principal, the Dance Chair will oversee the daily operations of the Dance Department. Candidates must be dedicated to increasing diversity in the student body and creating access to the program for students of color and those from lower socio-economic backgrounds. The selected candidate will provide visionary leadership in the development and expansion of the Dance program. They will develop curriculum, monitor budgets, hire, supervise and evaluate non-credentialed teaching artists, communicate with parents, and collaborate with the other arts department chairs. They will create opportunities for students to present their work in LA communities and high-profile events, and to work with non-profit arts providers in developing programming, outreach, and recruiting “pipelines” for prospective LACHSA students. They will recruit and admit students representative of LA’s diverse populations, and foster a safe and inclusive culture among students and faculty.

Requirements / Qualifications

Experience Five or more years of professional work as an artist, with a CV (Curriculum Vitae) representative of the candidate’s level of achievement, arts teaching in an institutional setting with high achieving arts students, and significant administrative or management experience. Education Preferably a master’s degree in dance or related field. License or certificate Possess and maintain a valid California Single Subject Dance or Physical Education Teaching Credential with an English Learner authorization (CLAD, BCLAD, or equivalent) required or eligibility to enter a concurrent California teacher credentialing intern program. To be intern eligible the candidate must meet the following minimum requirements at the time the application is submitted: • Subject Matter Competent (CSET exam in content area passed). • CBEST (Passing scores for all sections). • Pre-Services Coursework completed. • Enrolled in a credential program through a university, district, or county office.
