POSITION TITLE: School Police Officer

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High School Diploma with direct and extensive experience relevant to the position, required
2. Associates degree in criminal justice or related field or direct and extensive experience relevant to the position, preferred
3. Certified by the Pennsylvania Municipal Police Officers Training and Education Commission; Act 120 or a member or recently retired member of the Pennsylvania
State Police
4. Three (3) years of experience as a full-time police officer
5. ALICE Trained, preferred
6. Training from National Association of School Resource Officers or a Comparable approved program through PCCD as required by Act 67
7. Training or certification through NIMS(National Incident Management System)
8. Experience and training in developing Emergency Response Plans, Procedures, and Policies
9. Experience and training with nonviolent crisis intervention
10. Experience and training in developing safety plans to deal with an armed intruder
11. Experience in working with various social agencies such as Allegheny County CYF, Kid Voice, Truancy Prevention Program, and Pa. Department of Human Services
12. Experience and knowledge with initiating court proceedings with the Magisterial District Court, Allegheny County Juvenile Court, and Family Court and handling court orders
13. Knowledge of the Pennsylvania Public School Code of 1949
14. Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License
15. Experience and training in developing educational programs for students, staff, and parents
16. Certified CPR/AED and First Aid

REPORTS TO: Superintendent

ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
The School Police Officer for the West Jefferson Hills School District assists with providing a safe and secure learning environment for the students, staff, and community that will enable the students to reach their potential and become responsible members of the community. This position is expected to work with all members of the West Jefferson Hills School District community.

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Enforce the rules, regulations and procedures of the West Jefferson Hills School District
2. Enforce the Pennsylvania Statutes: Title #18, Crimes Code; Title #22 and Title #24, Public School Code; Title #35, Health and Safety; and Title #75 Vehicle Code
3. Exercise the same legal authority as a Municipal Police Officer in the Borough of Jefferson Hills, the Borough of Pleasant Hills, and the Borough of West Elizabeth in regards to filing a Summary Citation, a Juvenile Allegation, or a Criminal Complaint and attend any required court proceedings
4. Support the implementation of emergency plans and safety programs
5. Monitor the West Jefferson Hills School District buildings, grounds, and vehicles to protect the property from fire, theft, vandalism, and any other illegal activity
6. Assist local first responders and any other law enforcement or emergency service provider in the completion of their functions
7. Investigate any reported or suspected criminal activity occurring on District property or involving any member of the West Jefferson Hills School District and notify the
appropriate School District administrator and/or the appropriate law enforcement agencies of this investigation
8. Submit reports to the District Administration and/or the appropriate law enforcement agency on any violation of the District policy and procedure manual, Student/Parent
Handbook, and/or any violation of any state law or municipal ordinance
9. Attend any District related meetings and hearings as requested by Administration
10. Provide security coverage for District sporting events, dances, graduation, etc. with the Administration, as directed
11. Testify in court proceedings for the purpose of providing information and documentation of illegal activity, as needed
12. Report to assigned building daily unless otherwise directed or authorized to report elsewhere by the Director of Safety or his/her designee
13. Participate in Parent-Teacher-Student meetings, as requested by the principal
14. Confer with Administration to develop plans and strategies to prevent, identify, and minimize dangerous situations on or near school grounds or involving students at school
related activities
15. Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all student and school matters, in both the school setting and community
16. All other duties assigned by the Superintendent or designee
