Crane Currency is hiring! We’re looking for a hands-on, mechanically inclined individual to join our team in Dalton, MA as a Maintenance Technician / Boiler Operator Trainee. How you will make an impact:

The Maintenance Technician / Boiler Operator Trainee will support the safe and efficient operation of power plant equipment while learning the fundamentals of boiler systems and steam generation. This is a hands-on, rotating shift position that includes weekends and overtime. You’ll work closely with experienced operators and maintenance professionals to build your skills and prepare for licensure as a 2nd Class Fireman.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist/shadow a licensed operator with routine maintenance of boilers.
  • Independently maintain non-boiler equipment.
  • Change and clean fuel oil guns and strainers.
  • Maintain proper salt levels in water softeners.
  • Support basic pipe fitting and steam system repairs under supervision.
  • Learn to maintain chemical balance in operating boilers.
  • Communicate with key personnel regarding steam system status.
  • Read training materials and actively study for the Massachusetts 2nd Class Fireman’s License.

     

Knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Strong mechanical/technical aptitude — experience in HVAC, plumbing, or industrial maintenance is a plus
  • Willingness and commitment to obtain a Massachusetts 2nd Class Fireman’s License (training provided)
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime
  • U.S. Citizenship required and must meet suitability requirements for employment in a position of Public Trust under U.S. Government contract obligations
