Position Overview
The Instruction and Culture Leader at Gateway Middle School plays a pivotal role in building a vibrant student culture grounded by high expectations and high support. The Instruction and Culture Leader, working closely with the principals and leadership teams, develops and implements practices, traditions, and initiatives that nurture students' academic and social-emotional learning.
Major Duties and Responsibilities of Instruction and School Culture Leader:
Leadership of School Culture and Learning
- Provide instructional leadership by clearly articulating the mission and vision as well as expectations of students and staff;
- Support staff in building positive relationships and community in classrooms and to set and hold all students to high and consistent expectations;
- Coach teachers and work with leadership team to plan and implement professional development, especially as it relates to restorative practices, relationship building with students, classroom management, and school culture;
- Lead and collaborate effectively with site teams, including site leaders, school leadership team, and grade level and subject area teams
- Model professional, and positive forms of communication to promote a cohesive and collaborative culture;
- Coordinate and facilitate school field trips, outdoor education trips, and college visits for all grades in collaboration with teachers, family liaison, and/or the principal;
Leadership of Restorative Practices and Behavioral Support
- Lead use of restorative practices and development of Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) systems to support students social, emotional and behavioral success;
- Strengthen existing systems and develop appropriate new systems for following up on and responding to behavioral issues, including developing and implementing individual behavior plans;
- Keep accurate student discipline records, documenting all conferences, disciplinary actions, and phone calls
- Communicate regularly with staff regarding student behavior, progress, and follow up
- Collaborate with Student Support Team and coordinate student support providers and programs
SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS
The salary range for this position is $100,000-$130,000, plus benefits. GPS offers an excellent benefits package, including medical, dental and vision insurance (employee premiums covered by Gateway and additional stipends for dependents), life insurance, six weeks paid vacation, ten sick days, and 15 paid holidays, professional development opportunities, a retirement savings plan with employer match, onsite parking, and, if qualified, student loan repayment support.
Qualifications:
- Commitment to Gateway’s unique educational mission and to equitable outcomes for all students;
- Prior school leadership experience in a relevant role;
- CA Administrative credential or eligibility for emergency credential;
- CA teaching credential required and at least 3 years experience teaching;
- Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills;
- Commitment to working with students from diverse backgrounds and learning profiles;
- Ability to work collaboratively with a dedicated staff and involved parent body;
- Commitment to being anti-racist and pro-Black as well as modeling an asset-based approach
- Experience and expertise with restorative practices and PBIS preferred;
