Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Certified Clinic Coder!

As a Certified Coder at MercyOne, you will be responsible for accurately and efficiently assigning CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10 codes and modifiers to the patient encounter form in a timely manner.  This includes but is not limited to office visits and procedures, nursing home visits, inpatient, outpatient or emergency department visits.  Performs coding education to co-workers and physicians. 

  • Is responsible for accurately and efficiently assigning CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS codes and modifiers to the patient encounter in a timely manner.  This includes but is not limited to clinic services, nursing home services, inpatient, outpatient hospital and emergency room services.   
  • Assigns CPT and ICD-10 codes for minor and major surgical procedures based on provider documentation.  Assist nursing and technical staff in assigning CPT and ICD-10 codes for laboratory, radiology and other medical services.  Coders may change E/M codes with provider authorization.  Coders may add CPT codes with validation and authorization from the provider in the medical record.  Provider queries will be sent for clarification and/or additional information from the medical providers.  Knowledge of Hierarchical Condition Coding (coding for risk) to assist medical providers with reporting for ACO participation and shared savings.
  • Assigns codes based medical documentation including medical necessity.    Coders may link diagnoses codes to CPT codes only when easily inferred.  Coders may add diagnoses when documented in the medical record for the related date of service. Coder will query provider when clarification is needed.
  • Assigns HCPCS codes for pharmaceuticals and supplies based on information provided in the Electronic Health Record and provider documentation.

Schedule:

  • Full Time
  • Days, M-F

General Requirements:

  • Successful completion of a Certification by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS-P). Must maintain certification and be current with required CEUs.
  • Must be detail oriented with an ability to organize work responsibilities.
  • Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)
  • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

Education:

  • Has successfully completed two years of education to include courses in medical terminology, coding and other related areas or consider two (2) years of related experience for each one (1) year of formal education.
