Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of nursing and health care duties for the students and staff of the schools including administering first aid, illness evaluations, dispensing medication, screenings, record keeping, and the overseeing of the daily activities of the health offices.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Administers first aid, medication, injections, and emergency care.
- Plans and conducts screening programs, performs follow up procedures, conducts pre-school screenings and screenings for psychological referrals.
- Evaluates illnesses and makes referrals to parents and medical personnel.
- Oversees daily activities in health offices, on call at all offices.
- Reviews and updates all immunization records, prepares annual immunization report.
- Maintains comprehensive up-to-date health records for each student and staff member.
- Records and monitors communicable diseases.
- Acts as resource person for health education, staff in-services, and provides health counseling to parents, students and staff.
- Maintains detailed daily log.
- Collects kindergarten and all new student’s physical exam and immunization records.
- Monitors and aids students with special needs such as diabetes, asthma, seizure disorders, chronic illness, etc.
- Identifies and reports abuse.
- Schedules dental programs in all grades, talks with classes regarding dental care.
- Participates in open houses, PTO meetings, seminars, conferences, etc.
- Orders supplies.
- Assists with crisis intervention in suicides, pregnancies, drug abuse, eating disorders, etc.
- Performs other related essential duties as required
- 7 hours a day/188 days per year (182 work days + 6 paid holidays)
Minimum Training and Experience Required to Perform Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Nursing degree with one to two years public health nursing, pediatric nursing or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
Candidates must have completed an accredited program of registered nursing and passed the NCLEX-RN to meet the licensure requirements outlined in the Indiana Nurse Practice Act, Code 25-23-1.1 (1999). State Board of Education 511 IAC 4-1.5-6 (2000)
Pay: $35.06 for 7 hours a day for 188 days each school year.
