Required:
1. Valid Iowa Teaching License
2. Evidence of exemplary classroom teaching through teacher evaluations, portfolio documentation, National Board Certified Teacher status or other recognition for classroom excellence.
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
4. Knowledge of differentiated instruction for gifted, ESL, and special needs students.

BASIC FUNCTION:
Dream to Teach Mentor Teacher provides classroom-based instructional mentoring to 6th through 12th grade students interested in becoming educators. These teachers provide meaningful experiences for students in areas such as class culture and climate, implementing instructional strategies, classroom management, analyzing student work, differentiated instruction, and supporting ELL and students with special needs. Individuals selected for the position attend training and professional development throughout the school year. This position requires continuous use of independent judgment. Specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the building assignment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Establish and maintain a trustful, confidential and non-evaluative relationship with students to help develop their self-efficacy as future instructional leaders.
2. Check in with students on a weekly basis concerning their academic performance, assignments, general behavior and conduct, and problems in or out of school.
3. Chaperone field trips such as college visits and meetings with community partners.
4. Assist Dream to Teach students in reflecting on and analyzing their practice and reviewing student work to inform instruction and enhance studentachievement.
5. Use knowledge of equity principles to deepen Dream to Teach students’ application of standards.
6. Model, as appropriate, innovative teaching methodologies through techniques such as co-teaching and demonstration lessons; provide opportunities for Dream to Teach students to observe exemplary practice by arranging classroom visits.
7. Promote collegiality and build community among Dream to Teach students by providing professional learning opportunities (e.g., workshops, co-teaching, summer academy,etc.).
8. Invite ongoing collaboration with other Dream to Teach mentors, site coordinator, and district staff to ensure coherence between coaching activities and school or district expectations.
9. Fully participate in professional development provided through Dream to Teach.
10. Commit to growth along a continuum (Marzano Framework) and engage in goal setting andreflection.
11. Commit to meeting or exceeding all performance targets established by program leadership.
12. Maintain and submit required documentation.
13. Demonstrate the highest standards of honesty, integrity, flexibility and responsiveness.
