Job Summary

The Director of Child Welfare and Attendance coordinates and supervises the K-12 student support services programs in the area of guidance, counseling, attendance, and welfare services. Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Student Support Services, the Director supervises student support service operations including site counselors, Student Assistance Program (SAP); and Alternative Education including, but not limited to, Independent Study, Home/Independent Study, Home/Hospital Instruction, and Opportunity Program. The Director plans, organizes and implements a comprehensive program of student attendance and welfare services; provide support to schools with alternative solutions for discipline and attendance problems, finding alternative educational placements and provide inservice in areas which have liability and legal ramifications.

Required Documents

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Education or related field is required.
  • Training in management and leadership skills is required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of successful classroom teaching experience required.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of successful school administrative experience at the site level required.
  • Site-level principal experience highly desired.
  • Strong background in substance abuse prevention, intervention, and suppression programs, crisis intervention, and gang activity suppressive programs desirable.
  • Licenses, Certifications and Testing Required:

  • Valid California Teaching Credential
  • Valid California Administrative Services Credential
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid California driver’s license.
