PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: JOB GOAL:
To provide an approved special education program and establish a class environment that fosters learning and personal growth; to help pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for continued education; and to maintain good relationships with parents and other staff members.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides instruction to classified students in accordance with each pupil's individualized education program.
2. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each
pupil in accordance with each student’s IEP.
3. Sets specific objectives based on student IEPs for daily lessons.
4. Plans units and projects based on specific objectives that support and reflect the student’s IEP.
5. Documents progress toward achievement of the goals and objectives in the IEP at least on a quarterly basis using effective and research-based documentation methods. These methods include but are not limited to anecdotal records, portfolios, class record books and/or board approved forms. The teacher demonstrates the ability to summarize this information for the purpose of communicating progress to parents and providing the case manager with information for the development of the IEPs.
6. Works cooperatively with regular education teaching staff to coordinate instructional activities and to monitor the progress of each pupil and provides support instruction in the regular classroom or resource center as assigned.
7. Provides in-class support instruction, serves as a co-teacher (grades K-8), or provides replacement or support instruction in the resource center as assigned.
8. Provides home instruction to confined special education pupils as assigned.
9. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.
10. Consults with members of the child study team regarding each pupil's educational program, academic program and personal growth. Meets at least once annually with the case manager, parents and other professional staff to review and revise the individualized education program and placement of each assigned pupil.
11. Communicates with and communicates effectively with members of the child study team regarding each student’s educational program, social, and emotional well being.
12. Meets at least once annually with the case manager, parents and other professional staff to review and revise the individualized education program and placement of each assigned student.
13. Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to inform them about the school program and to share student progress.
14. Participates in the development of the district's plan for special education.
15. Maintains professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities.
16. Participates in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees and other school system groups.
17. Makes effective use of community resources to enhance the instructional program.
18. Performs other duties within the scope of his/her employment and certification as may be assigned.
