QUALIFICATIONS:
- Educational Requirements:
- Associate's Degree (or higher)
- or complete at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours);
- or ETS Paraprofessional Assessment passing with a minimum score of 460
- or College Board's SAT passing with minimum scores: Evidence-Based Reading and Writing - 480; Math - 530
- or the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) Basic Skills Test passing with minimum scores
- or MTCC Professional Readiness Examination passing with a minimum score
- or WorkKeys - passing with minimum scores: Reading for Information - 4; Applied Math - 4; Writing - 3
- or ACT (taken between 01/01/1989 - 10/01/2017) - passing with minimum scores: Reading - 22: Combined English and Writing - 22; Math - 22
- or Michigan Merit Examination (MME) (taken between 01/01/2007 - 01/31/2015) - passing with minimum scores: Reading 1108: Writing - 1129; Mathematics - 1116
- Basic clerical skills, including filing, keyboarding, and organizational skills
- Ability to supervise and appear relaxed with large groups of students
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Desire to help all students
- Knowledge of computer software preferred
- Exhibit emotional stability and physical stamina necessary for meeting the requirements of the position
- Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
DUTIES:
- Provide a welcoming environment for students that supports the function of the school, fosters a love of reading, and facilitates an appreciation of life-long learning
- Interact with students and monitor student behavior while in the classroom
- Read books aloud to students
- Conduct general circulation duties, including but not limited to checking books in and out for students
- Organize and shelve books
- Basic dusting and straightening of the media center
- Help students and teachers locate materials, whether print, audio/visual, or digital
- Keep books in good repair
- Prepare, accept, and process fines and fees for lost or overdue materials
- Create book displays and book fair flyers throughout the school year
- Provide a monthly blurb for the school's family newsletter
- Set up, run, and take down book fairs
- Prepare and submit bank deposits
- Participate in the end-of-the-year inventory
- Provide low-level support for students using computers
- Provide a mobile library by stocking the cart with age-appropriate books and taking the cart directly to each classroom, allowing students to explore early readers and picture books
- Regularly update the mobile library cart with fresh selections to keep students engaged and excited about reading
- Performs related duties as assigned, including intervention
- The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
- Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance
SALARY: $13.01 - $17.07 per hour, commensurate with experience - per DPA Contract
