Great stories told by the news media are called "earned" for good reason. MediaSource is seeking a candidate with experience networking with news reporters and earning positive media coverage. What you will be responsible for:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local and national journalists; interact daily to secure coverage, gather insights and guide strategy.
- Proactively secure and coordinate earned, paid, shared, and owned results with a focus on earned outcomes.
- Monitor news trends and connect client interests to emerging stories.
- Contribute to strategy and consistently deliver strategic media coverage for health care and wellness clients.
- Develop brand-aligned story ideas that generate positive media attention.
- Align tactics with client goals and take ownership of public relations projects to deliver results.
- Understand budget models, scope, and resources to make responsible day-to-day decisions.
- Set priorities, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery of work.
- Coordinate with other departments to align project timing and PR steps.
- Take on expanding responsibilities, including direct client interaction and managing mid-sized accounts.

- Strong news judgment and creative thinking ability resulting in innovative approaches which garner earned media results and help meet clients’ goals.
- Relationship builder, not afraid to pick up the phone, meet in person and talk one on one with journalists and clients.
- Ability to balance client sensitives and priorities with news media demands for consistently positive outcomes.
- Excellent writer and editor of materials for news media.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail with ability to keep on track with goals and duties and update internal staff on a regular basis of progress.
- Success in this position requires the ability to take initiative and ownership of responsibilities and tasks assigned, and the ability to adapt to changes in requests and direction.
- Must have the ability to work on multiple projects at once and be comfortable with multitasking and meeting deadlines without reminders from management. Assistant MR Manager is responsible for supporting upper media relations management in the operation of the media relations department, primarily in a role of coordination and management of the project work done in MR. He or she is expected to be able to take full creative, media relations and fiscal responsibility for any project in media relations.

Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in public relations, journalism, or strategic communications preferred preferred.
Experience:
- 4-8 years experience in public relations
- Background in cancer, healthcare, or science communications preferred
- Proven experience and success in media relations and client relations
- Journalism/newsroom experience is helpful
- Proficient in Google Workspace, media databases, and project management programs (Asana preferred)

Location: MediaSource is located in Columbus, Ohio. This is a hybrid role based in the Central Ohio area that includes both remote working and workplace-based in person collaboration which takes place at a minimum of twice per week.
