Join our Legacy
Reporting to the Quality Assurance Manager, the retort operator operates the cookers that pasteurize/sterilize products to the required standards. Employee must maintain clear communication with the Quality Assurance Department and be precise and detailed in all reporting.
Your Contribution to Excellence
- Forklift Certified & FMC Operator1.
- Completes necessary daily inspection reports.
- Sets recipes per product specifications1.
- Checks/monitors boiler pressure, air pressure, water flow, and overall equipment performance1.
- Installs/monitors charts on chart recorders.
- Sets machines and conducts pre-op inspections.
- Verifies can codes, can size and can counts.
- Accurately completes all State documents and reports.
- Verifies/documents initial temperature, time steam on, time vent closes, pertinent cook times, pressure, and all critical factors for every cook.
- Proficient in daily forklift operation.
- Utilizes RF Scanners for license plate applications.
- Operates FMC palletizer/depalletizer unit.
- Observes machine, detects problems, corrects minor malfunctions, communicates with maintenance.
- Safely clears equipment jams in alignment with LOTO policies.
- Maintains work area in clean, neat, and orderly condition.
- Meets all productivity and efficiency standards as outlined by management.
- Follows all safety rules and regulations, including active participation in the prompt identification and communication of safety hazards.
- Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices1.
- Must be able to work any shift and weekends as necessary, including overtime, with or without notice.
- Notify supervisor of equipment malfunction.
- Immediately report all food safety and food quality problems to your supervisor1.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
What you Bring to the Table
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to six months related experience or training.
- Ability to perform calculations, write clearly and communicate well with others.
- Machine operator background is preferred.
- Must be familiar driving forklift, preferred propane type.
