The Clinical Resource Nurse is a registered nurse who primarily serves as a clinical support resource, helping to ensure effective use of nursing staff and supporting the development of nursing competencies and decision-making skills. 


Team Impact

The CRN reports to the Director of Nursing Resources and works under the Administrative Nursing Supervisor. They provide direct patient care, respond to emergencies, assist with staff training, and support the unit's team during high acuity situations, staffing fluctuations, or when specialized skills are needed. 

In addition, the CRN:

  • Serves as a resource for new nurses, new procedures, and new equipment
  • Maintains required competencies for critical care and specialized nursing skills. 
  • Functions within the scope of practice outline in the NYS Nurse Practice Act
  • Development of leadership skills to prepare for cross-training to advance to the off-shift Nursing Supervisor role.

How You Will Fulfill Your Potential
Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates competency as a Registered Nurse defined by the unit specific competencies for a critical care nurse. 
  • Responds to emergency situations and assumes a lead or supportive (back up) role dependent on the circumstances and skill level of those present.
  • Supports and follows through consistently with plans of care established by other RNs with primary accountability.  Provides an effective hand-off report when indicated. 
  • Demonstrates knowledge of age specific and developmental needs and applies throughout the nursing process.
  • Responsible for appropriate utilization of resources in patient care.
  • Performs assessments, intervenes and actively seeks modification of/new medical orders to meet changing patient needs.
     

Education/Accredited Programs

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program.
  • 5 years of nursing experience with critical care setting preferred
  • Prior charge nurse or leadership experience preferred 
  • Specialty certification preferred
     

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations

  • Current license and registration to practice as a Registered Professional Nursing in New York State
  • BLS and ACLS certification 

 

Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to assume leadership role in nursing practice
  • Strong clinical assessment and technical skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, to delegate effectively, and to direct and oversee the work of practical nurses, nursing aides and unit secretaries
  • Ability to recognize patient care problems and to react appropriately in patient care emergencies
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing with other nursing personnel, patients, and physicians
  • Ability to complete basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to analyze, problem-solve and perform under stressful and clinically complex situations

Salary Range
The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $39.93 to $59.89 per hour. Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.
