Process chemist with expertise to run a petrochemical/refinery process monitoring lab. Ability to work on research teams for manufacturing, feedstock, and product characterization. Capable of performing complex research and experiments to develop new methods and procedures under a safe environment. Experience to build a comprehensive technical report and present these findings to operations, Engineers, or Scientists. Expertise in spectrophotometry for process water testing, thermal analysis technique such as thermogravimetric analysis and gas chromatography.
Responsibilities
- Process design: Develop and optimize chemical-pyrolysis processes to produce hydrocarbon compounds, or the production of existing compounds on a large scale.
- Process scale-up: Conduct laboratory-scale experiments to determine the feasibility of new processes, and then scale them up for production.
- Process optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of chemical processes, including factors such as yield, efficiency, and safety.
- Process troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve any problems that arise during the production of hydrocarbon/chemical compounds, including issues related to quality, cost, and safety.
- Equipment design: Design and specify the equipment and materials needed for chemical processes, lab testing and oversee the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
- Cost analysis: Conduct cost analyses to determine the economic viability of new processes and make recommendations for process improvement.
- Quality Control/Assurance: Perform testing under ASTM methods and adhere or improve the existing quality management systems and lab information management system.
- Compliance: Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations.
- Technical competence: ability to use the following instrument.
- TGA, DSC, EA, FTIR, CIC for solid feed and hydrocarbon product characterization.
- HACH testing kits for process waste quality analysis.
- Gas chromatography (GC) for simulated distillation analysis of petroleum product
Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering
- Associate degree in Chemistry with over 2 years’ experience in process lab environment
- Extensive experience in thermal process instruments such as TGA, DSC, EA.
- Strong knowledge of LIMS usage as administrator or user
- Experience with pyrolysis processes is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex process issues.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations.
