I. Position Summary:
Under general supervision the RN staff nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies and procedures of Macon County General Hospital. In collaboration with the patient, the patient’s family and other members of the healthcare team, the clinical RN assesses, plans, implements and coordinates treatment plans for the patient’s medical condition. The RN acts as a Charge Nurse or Staff Nurse. Responsible to actively participate in quality assurance/performance improvement activities to ensure processes are meeting the intended goal/outcome, to identify opportunities for improvement, and to be accountable for the quality of care provided in their respective area.
II. Position Requirements:
A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current Registered Nursing License in the State of Tennessee.
B. Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
C. Experience: One (1) year experience in acute care, or skilled nursing facility.
D. Special qualifications: Current licensure in the State of Tennessee as a Registered Nurse. BLS – healthcare provider. Good communication skills, both orally and written. Some computer knowledge would be helpful. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Advanced Cardiac Life Support. Pediatric Advanced Life Support recommended.
III. Degree of Supervision Required: Involves general guidance and direction by the Director of Nursing Services. The employee will be expected to perform most job duties independently and in accordance with established departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
IV. Ages of Patients Served:
This position requires competence in assessment, treatment, and/or care for the age groups indicated. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.

VI. Physical Requirements: Constant: standing, sitting, seeing, hearing, and finger dexterity. Constant concentration in fine details with frequent interruptions. Occasional: pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, using arm, leg and back muscles may be required. May be expected to lift more than 25 pounds. Manage stress appropriately, handle multiple priorities. Make decisions under stress. Work along and manage anger, fear, hostility and violence of others appropriately.
VII. Personal Protective Equipment: This position requires the use of personal protective equipment during various tasks/activities. Personal protective equipment includes, but is not limited to gloves, masks and safety gloves.
