About the Department
The City is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Part-Time Custodian. The custodian will play a key role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and orderly condition of City buildings, including the Police Department and Human Resources facilities.
Ideal candidates will be flexible, knowledgeable in custodial duties, and able to work independently while collaborating effectively with team members. The role involves performing routine cleaning, minor maintenance tasks, managing supplies, and reporting safety concerns. The ability to work across multiple sites and maintain a strong attention to detail is essential.
The current departmental need is for coverage Monday through Friday, from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM (approximately 20 hours), and is subject to change based on the needs of the department.
A thorough background check including a Live Scan and an administrative background (which includes work history, criminal history, drug/alcohol history, credit check, education, reference contacts, etc.) is mandatory for this position.
Please note, this part-time position is at-will and does not include any fringe benefits, aside from any benefits required by federal or state law.
Position Duties
- Must be available to work Monday through Friday approximately 6:30 AM - 10:30 AM
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Minimum of 1 year of general work experience required
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles
Minimum Qualifications
Under direct supervision, to keep assigned areas and City buildings in a clean, neat, and orderly condition; to perform minor building maintenance work; and to do related work as required.
Duties may include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Sweeping, moping, scrubbing, oiling, and waxing floors;
- Vacuuming rugs and carpets; cleaning waste receptacles;
- Cleaning hallways, restrooms, offices and lobbies;
- Cleaning ceilings, walls, window shades and light fixtures;
- Assisting in moving and arranging of furniture and equipment;
- Turning out lights and locking doors and windows;
- Refilling lavatory supply dispensers;
- Operation of scrubbers, buffers, waxers and other equipment;
- Requisition of supplies as needed;
- Regulates building temperatures;
- Observes for and reports needed repairs to buildings and equipment;
Knowledge of:
- Janitorial supplies, equipment and methods;
- Proper materials and procedures used for cleaning purposes;
Ability to:
- Clean and care for an assigned area;
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions;
- Read and write at the level required for successful job performance;
- Maintain cooperative working relationships.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
Experience
- A minimum of one year general work experience required
Education
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license as issued by the State of California Department of Motor Vehicles.
