About the Department
Performs intermediate legal skilled clerical work for the law department.
Position Duties
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:
- Serving as receptionist; preparing, processing and maintaining legal office files and records; serving as clerical support to the law department staff.
- Receives telephone calls and visitors, provides general information, directs to appropriate staff;
- Prepares correspondence and legal papers including briefs, opinions, proceedings, orders, complaints, decisions, contracts, ordinances, resolutions, commitments, affidavits, etc.;
- Drafts or assists with drafting pleadings;
- Prepares pleadings and other legal documents for filing in court systems;
- Drafts and prepares exemption petitions, deeds, closing statements, affidavits of title, bills of sale, leases and other contracts;
- Prepares case files and subpoenas;
- Assists attorneys with court preparations;
- Sets up and maintains filing systems and office procedures;
- Types reports and statements;
- Process purchase requisitions, pay invoices and maintain account balances;
- Assist Risk Manager with claims processing and workers’ compensation claims;
- Respond to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, review requests for appropriate documentation and redactions;
- Keeps confidential files;
- Performs related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- General knowledge of legal office practices, procedures, equipment and secretarial techniques
- General knowledge of department functions, organization and policies
- Thorough knowledge of legal terminology and spelling
- Thorough knowledge of various related computer software programs, including MS Office Suite
- Ability to establish harmonious working relationships with others
- Ability to work under pressure
- Must be well organized and perform work independently
- Ability to lay out and type complex forms and tables
- Ability to make difficult arithmetic calculations
- Ability to type at a reasonable rate of speed
- An effective communicator to deal with other employees and the general public
- Must be able to work in a highly confidential office environment.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable increasingly responsible secretarial experience in a legal office. Jetzt bewerben
