This role operates in our Hopefully Yours Thrift Store. The Store Assistant Manager supports the mission of the organization – empowering people to reach individual achievement across the spectrum of life. As an integral part of the Imagine the Possibilities team, you will assist us in delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining store presentation and organization, and supporting the sales and operational functions to achieve the store’s goals.


Store Assistant Managers provide leadership to a team who is laser-focused on providing the best care possible. As a core team member, you’ll be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the store, making sure it runs smoothly and effectively. Your consistent leadership will provide your team with the trusted foundation they need to make a difference in the lives of the people we serve.

  • Customer Service, which will include:
    • Ensure a quality experience for customers, volunteers, persons served, and donors by promoting positive interactions and maintaining a clean store. 
    • Promote healthy relationships between staff, donors, volunteers, and customers to create a favorable workplace and improve store culture. 
    • Maintain appropriate communication with others to ensure successful interactions. 
    • Resolve customer complaints and escalate when necessary.
  • Sales and Performance: 
    • Utilize volunteers to the best of our ability to keep operational costs to a minimum. 
    • Implement and oversee sound financial practices regarding the store to reduce the risk of loss.
    • Oversee cash handling, register reconciliations, and bank deposits. 
    • Ensure compliance with financial and loss prevention policies. 
    • Support the achievement of sales goals and key performance indicators (KPIs). 
  • Inventory and Merchandising: 
    • Oversee inventory control, including receiving, stocking, and shrink prevention. 
    • Ensure accurate product pricing and signage. 
    • Maintain store presentation and merchandising standards. 
  • Donations:
    • Safely operate a company vehicle to pick up and transport donated goods from various locations to the store, following all traffic laws and company safety procedures. 
    • Load and unload donations, ensuring proper handling of items to prevent damage. 
    • Maintain accurate donation records and provide courteous service to donors during pick up. 
  • Coordinate and oversee staffing: 
    • Schedule staff effectively. 
    • Hire store staff as needed. 
    • Provide orientation and ongoing training for staff. Ensure timely documentation of new staff training/orientation.
  • Supervise personnel:
    • Schedule and notify staff of required agency trainings. 
    • Conduct regular staff meetings and provide documentation of information covered.
    • Complete relevant timely documentation of promotions, meetings, disciplines, etc. of staff. 
    • Perform evaluations for Store Associates within one month of the due date.
    • Fill in for staff when coverage is short.

Physical Demands:

  • May require lifting at times, up to 50 pounds. Lifting more than 50 pounds requires the use of a two-person lift, mechanical lift, or assistive equipment.
  • May require prolonged sitting and working at a computer for up to eight hours. 
  • May require frequent bending, stooping, and stretching. 
  • May require prolonged standing for up to eight hours.
  • Must wear hearing and eye protection in required areas.
  • Must have ability to see objects/persons at a distance. 
  • Must have ability to see close work such as typed or handwritten material. 
  • Must have ability to hear conversations in a quiet and a noisy environment. 
  • Must have ability to determine where a sound is coming from. 
  • Must have ability to hear differences among bells, buzzers, beeps, horns, etc. 
  • Must have ability to communicate through speech.
  • Must have ability to drive. 
  • Must remain awake during working hours, where applicable.
