Position Title: Residential Aide (Part-time)
Reports to: Operations Manager
Category: Part-Time, Non-Exempt-Essential
Location: NW Washington, DC 20016
Hours: Saturday & Sunday, between 8 am and 4 pm, some evenings, holidays, or weekends may be required to report to emergencies.

Summary: The Brooks Program provides short-term housing services to families experiencing homelessness in the District. The building contains 50 units and is located in Northwest DC. The program follows a Housing First model philosophy and utilizes best practices to ensure participants can be transitioned out of short-term family housing to independent housing within 90 days. The Shift Supervisor will ensure the smooth operation of each shift. The role will be the primary point of contact for DHS, DGS, and any external subcontractors during the shift. Shift Supervisor are responsible for the safety and security of the staff, clients, and the building at the STFH site. Shift Supervisor oversee Residential Aides, shall lead emergency protocols, report all incidents to both program and operational leadership, and be the point of contact when the PD and OM are not present at the site.
Essential Position Requirements and Competencies

- Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the program and its participants
- Must have or be able to obtain a First Aid/CPR/AED certification that includes?a hands-on skills testing module.? Friendship Place will provide First Aid/CPR/AED training.
- Provides appropriate oversight of the participants at the short-term family housing site and enforces program policies.
- Provides an efficient and safe working environment for participants, employees, and visitors at the short-term family housing site. This includes ensuring spills are attended and universal precautions are utilized.
- Reviews, explains and provides each family with a copy of the program rules during intake and reviews the rights and responsibilities of the residents.
- Monitors the residents, units, and grounds of The Brooks at all times to ensure the security and safety of each resident.
- Provides de-escalation services to the participants as needed and to ensure safety and well-being of all staff and residents, including contacting MPD, Mobile Crisis, and/or CHAMPS as necessary.
- Assists in the planning and organization of recreational activities and events for families residing at The Brooks
- Reports unusual incidents to the appropriate parties OR writes unusual incident reports.
- Reports observations to case management staff to support the participants in progressing towards their goals.
- Performs weekly and as necessary inspections of units.
- Distributes food during meal services and discards waste.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year of experience working in a residential or shelter setting.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience working with families and/or youth and knowledge of child development and child welfare are preferred.
- Educational experience may be waived if the candidate for employment can document having experienced homelessness.
Skills and Competencies
- Excellent time management, detail-oriented, organized, capable of maintaining confidentiality, and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Experience with adult rehabilitation, mental health, addiction, and co-occurring disorders
- Experience working with families, youth, and school systems in culturally diverse environments with empathy and integrity.
- Must possess and be able to demonstrate strong intra- and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively express ideas, needs, and observations both verbally and in writing. This includes the ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with clients, colleagues, and supervisors, as well as to document interactions and incidents accurately, professionally, and in a timely manner.
- Must be able to demonstrate active listening, emotional awareness, and the ability to adapt their communication style to different individuals and situations.
- Ability to work well under pressure and as part of a diverse team

- Proficiency in Office 365 system, specifically Word and Excel
Working conditions: The office is located in an apartment building and exposed to conditions that arise in homes, including occasionally biohazards (e.g., blood, tissue, human waste) and conflict.
Physical and Environmental Requirements: The role requires a balance of office-based tasks and fieldwork, including travel throughout the service area to meet with households, as well as participating in meetings and engagements with key stakeholders. Employees must be able to sit for extended periods with repetitive motions and positions. The employee must be able to operate a motorized vehicle. Some lifting may be required (up to 20-25).

The selected candidate will be required to complete and pass background checks specific to contract requirements that may include criminal history background check and fingerprinting, FBI Background Check, DC Metropolitan Police Background Check, State-of-Residence Police Background Check, DC Child Abuse Registry (CFSA), National Sex Offender Registry Check, Drug Panel and Alcohol Screening, Tuberculosis Test, and Driving Record check (for positions transporting participants). Reference checks and verification of current and/or previous employment are required. .

Specific Requirements: Positions requiring travel must have reliable access to personal transportation to fulfill job duties. The vehicle must meet all legal requirements, including valid registration and current auto insurance. Employees must provide the employer with current copies of their valid driver’s license and proof of insurance as a condition of employment. Additionally, employees are required to notify the employer and provide updated documentation within a legally appropriate timeframe if there are any changes to their driver’s license status or insurance coverage.

Compensation: The hiring pay range is between $17.95 and $20.23 per hour. Depending on the position, the starting hourly pay rate is based on a step system. A candidate’s starting pay determination is based on meeting the basic position requirements and current completed education, credentials, and work experience. Please note: The step system is set and not open to pay negotiation.
