At Heartspring, we’re investing in marketing and communications as we re-emerge as an internationally recognized Center of Excellence in pediatric neurodevelopment. This is not a traditional nonprofit role—it’s a high-level marketing leadership opportunity with clear KPIs for brand building, lead generation, and revenue growth. As our organization expands with new facilities coming in Wichita’s downtown health care corridor, you’ll lead a dedicated team, drive integrated campaigns across multiple service lines, guide an internal culture shift through communications and employer brand, and help shape the reputation and reach of a 91-year-old organization entering its next chapter of growth. As Marketing & Communications Director, you will:
Champion our integrity by driving operational excellence and team alignment while exhibiting leadership through:
- Team Management & Coaching: Lead and develop a high-performing team of managers and specialists. Provide strategic direction, prioritize initiatives, set goals, and foster a culture of collaboration, growth, and accountability. (Leadership)
- Campaign & Channel Oversight: Oversee the execution of all external and internal/employee marketing and communications campaigns. Ensure consistent brand voice, visual integrity, and integration across social, digital, print, events, and internal channels. (Excellence)
- Service Line & Business Unit Marketing Oversight: Oversee the strategic alignment and delivery of marketing support for business units/service lines. Coach and guide assigned marketing leads, ensure consistency across campaigns, and collaborate with executive and departmental leadership to drive inquiry, engagement, and revenue growth. (Service)
- Work Planning & Prioritization: Manage team workflow and resourcing across a high volume of competing needs. Lead planning and project alignment across business units including Outpatient Services, the Therapeutic School, Human Resources, Community Relations and Advancement. (Service)
- Marketing & Communications Infrastructure & Tools: Operationalize and optimize tools and systems that enable marketing performance, including the website, email platform, DAM system, media monitoring, and analytics dashboards. (Possibility)
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with leaders across the organization to align communication strategies with business goals. Serve as the team’s primary point of contact for operational coordination, content planning, and campaign delivery. (Collaboration)
- Measurement & Reporting: Ensure regular tracking of key marketing and communications metrics. Build a culture of data-informed decision-making and apply insights to optimize campaigns and demonstrate impact. (Excellence)
- Creative & Brand Integration: Partner with the VP and leadership to uphold brand standards and evolve messaging frameworks that support strategic positioning and thought leadership. (Celebration)
- Public Relations & Crisis Communications: Lead day-to-day media relations, including proactive story development, pitch coordination, and media response. Execute crisis communications protocols in collaboration with the VP, including internal escalations, stakeholder messaging, media coordination, and scenario planning. Support spokesperson preparation and media training to protect and advance Heartspring’s reputation. (Integrity)
- People Management: Guide and develop team members to achieve individual and collective goals to ensure open communication, provide constructive feedback, and foster a supportive work environment conducive to professional growth. Requirements
You are a great fit for this role if you have knowledge and abilities in:

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business, public relations, or related field required
- 8+ years of full-time experience in marketing and communications roles, with at least 5 years in a team leadership capacity preferred
- Proven experience overseeing integrated internal and external campaigns, managing staff, and delivering results in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment
- Exceptional writing, editing, project management, and communication skills required
- Experience working in mission-driven, healthcare, or education environments preferred
