Job Description
CDM Smith is seeking an experienced Industrial Hygienist (IH) to support the environmental health and radiation safety needs of Sable Offshore, a key client engaged in oil and gas production off the coast of California. This role focuses on controlling worker exposure to chemical, physical, biological, ergonomic, and radiological hazards in both onshore and offshore environments.
The Industrial Hygienist will be responsible for conducting risk assessments and job hazard analyses (JHAs), developing exposure monitoring programs for noise, air quality, and hazardous substances (e.g., hydrocarbons, hydrogen sulfide), and performing sampling and analysis to ensure compliance with OSHA, NIOSH, ACGIH, EPA, and
other relevant standards. The role also involves designing and implementing comprehensive IH programs, including respiratory protection, hearing conservation, confined space entry, and chemical hygiene. Additional responsibilities include recordkeeping, employee training, and providing technical guidance to staff and contractors on safe work practices. The IH will support regulatory reporting, incident investigations, and collaborate closely with HSE and operations teams to integrate IH best practices across field operations. Active participation in emergency response planning is also expected.
The ideal candidate will also:
• Conduct air, surface, and bulk sampling for chemical, biological, and radiological agents.
• Support IH programs (BBP, hearing conservation,
respiratory protection, medical surveillance).
• Assess exposures to dusts, VOCs, fumes, silica, and noise.
• Implement and verify exposure controls per OSHA standards.
• Evaluate PPE, including NFPA 2112-compliant flame-resistant clothing, based on task-specific exposure to risks.
• Prepare and review IH-related reports, JHAs, and
investigations.
• Ensure compliance with Cal/OSHA, 29 CFR 1910.1096, 10 CFR Part 20, and CCR Title 17.
• Perform audits, inspections, and support regulatory reporting.
• Participate in incident investigations and emergency planning.
• Deliver training and act as a field liaison during high-risk work.
• Interpret IH data and provide concise reports to
stakeholders.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Ability to wear NFPA 2112 Flame-Resistant Clothing.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, elevated areas, and variable weather environments.
• Ability to be available for after-hours emergency
response as needed.
• Occasional lifting of equipment up to 50 lbs., and
extended periods of standing, walking, or climbing.
• Offshore travel via helicopter or vessel required during rotations.
• Familiarity with SCBA, confined space entry,
Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Hot Work procedures.
